Lincoln 3, Madison 2 (8 Innings)

The Lincoln Patriots won an extra-inning victory over Madison on Monday. The Patriots quickly were ahead 1-0, as Ryne Hammerstrom scored after a single by Jackson Boe. Lincoln extended the lead to 2-0 in the fourth inning on a home run by Payton Hughes, and looked to hold Madison to a shutout. The Bulldogs finally answered in the bottom of the sixth, when Logan Allbee scored Aspen Dahl on a double. Allbee later scored the tying run on a wild pitch, and the momentum was held by the Bulldogs.

Both teams had a runner on in the seventh, but both teams failed to score. Then in the top of the eighth inning, Hammerstrom scored his second run of the day on a wild pitch. Schafer then struck out the side to win the game.

Monday’s game was opening night for the Bulldogs, and Madison will play Brandon Valley in a doubleheader on Friday.

Dawson Portner quickly found a rhythm on the mound, striking out five batters in the first two innings, and Logan Boom got Tea Area on the board with a two-out double to left, scoring Carter McGregor.

The pitcher’s duel continued, as Vermillion continued to hold Tea Area to a single run, and the Tanagers broke up the no-hitter in the fifth inning. Vermillion tied the game later in the inning on an error, but the Titans answered in the sixth inning, as Portner scored on a Tanagers’ error. Vermillion would get one more chance in the seventh inning, but back-to-back fly outs ended the game.
