Good Afternoon South Dakota! Jan.13

This is our new series in which we provide you with a recap of South Dakota Sports from the day prior while you start your afternoon. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the stories.

Lots of exciting games happened over the last few days, so let’s talk dunks, rankings and big matchups down the road!

THE DUNK SHOW!

South Dakota put on a dunk show last night and it impressed! Pierre’s duo of Lincoln Kienholz and Jackson Edman threw down some big dunks last night against Sturgis, while the Governors slammed four on the night.

Here is Lincoln Kienholz’s big dunk:

And then here’s Jackson Edman’s top slam:

Now, Pierre might need to place an order for new rims before Yankton comes to town, but it might be cheaper to just wait until Mors leaves the capitol city. And while those dunks where impressive, the top dunk of the night, in my opinion, goes to Joe Saylor. This guy was on A MISSION!

Boys: Washington gets the big win

Washington solidify their #1 ranking in the media with a 55-48 victory over Yankton. I listened to this game on the radio, and Yankton again struggled to make the big shots at the end of the game. That’s what hurt them in the Brandon Valley loss, and Washington capitalized on the misses. The Bucks just need to find someone to step up and get into a rhythm were guys take shots when needed but still find Mors when he is open. With that being said…

Washington is #1. We had them listed below both Mitchell and Yankton but you can’t deny their resume now. They have a big game coming against Harrisburg on the 21st, and then Brandon Valley on the 26th, so their path is not getting easier. They made some clutch shots against Yankton and looked very poised, which shows that they can make a deep run into the state tournament.

Boys: De Smet takes down Howard

De Smet won a a big 3-point victory against Howard that will elevate the Bulldogs overall rankings on Friday. We had the Bulldogs listed one spot below Howard on the Staff Rankings, and if you want to prove you should be higher ranked, the easiest way to do so is to beat that said team. I had the Bulldogs listed #1 in my personal rankings, but I’m sure the staff will move them up. Respect earned!

Girls: Harrisburg stays Undefeated

I said that Washington needed to win some of the big games they have ahead to prove they are the #1 team in the state, but Harrisburg shot down that idea with a 68-60 overtime victory. Are the Tigers a quiet 8-0? Possibly, as their schedule hadn’t been difficult until Washington. But hey, win the games your suppose to win and then win some more. Harrisburg has done that, and now they look towards a Jan. 19th matchup against Brandon Valley after putting the state on notice.

Final Thoughts

Washington has now dropped two straight games and has a big matchup tomorrow versus O’Gorman. This is a must win for the Warriors’ morale, and Lady Knights need a big win as well. Should be a great matchup in Sioux Falls.

That’s all I got, so support your community and have a great Wednesday.

As always, we do our best to include what we can, but we can’t include everybody. We enjoy the support you bring, and next week we will continue to have more analysis and recap on SD Sports!
