Thursday night battle in Vermillion should be a great one. A potential semi-final level game in Class A.
Sioux Falls Christian (8-1)
Their schedule is by far the hardest of any team in Class A: 4 AA opponents, 2 traditional Iowa powerhouses, Unity Christian and Western Christian and possibly only 4 teams on their schedule will finish under .500.
Here are 7 of their remaining games:
Vermillion 7-0
Dak Valley 8-0
NEC team (Mobridge-Pollock 9-1 possibly)
Western Christian 11-3
Harrisburg 6-1
Sioux Valley 12-0
Flandreau 7-1
The Chargers are led by their 3 seniors:
Tyler Prins, Xavier Van Beek, Noah Van Donkersgoed. These long time teammates show a strong understanding of the game of basketball and a awareness that might be unmatched in the state. Prins and Van Beek have both committed Dordt University of the GPAC.
Van Beek scored 28 in SFC’s win at the Corn Palace Jan 15, Van Donkersgoed had 32 in the win vs Watertown on Jan 5 while Junior Brooks Nelson and Sophomore Tate Snyder finish the starting five.
Vermillion (7-0)
Vermillion’s schedule has been what many will consider soft. Five of their seven wins have come against teams with losing records. Two good wins have come against Class B power Viborg-Hurley and Tea.
Vermillion is led by 4 seniors:
Jakob Dobney averages 21 ppg, Dillion Gestring 12.5, Conner Saunders and Noah Gilbertson both average 9 points. Junior Jake Jensen rounds out the starting five.
This matchup will be a good test for the Tanagers and a win would solidify Vermillion’s spot at the top of Class A.
