BASEBALL RECAP (5/15): Rothschadl Throws Perfect Game For Cavs

Class A

Jefferson 5, Harrisburg 4

The Cavs took an early 3-0 lead on the road, but Harrisburg vanquished the gap with a 4-run rally in the 3rd inning.

However, Jefferson would not be denied the victory, as Cohen Henry and Thomas Heiberger hit RBI-doubles in the next frame and Kyler Miritello later slammed the door with 3 strikeouts to earn the win.

For Harrisburg, Teigan Munce hit a 3-run home run while Maddux Scherer and Braxton Kusler each had a pair of hits in the contest.


Brookings 4, Brandon Valley 2 (8 IN)

The Bobcats utilized an error on a fly ball from Nate Lease to score a pair of runs in top of the 8th and Austin Clark finished off the Lynx in the final frame for a complete game victory.

At the plate, Breck Hirrschoff connected for a pair of doubles, while Justin Cofell reached first twice via a single and a walk.

For BV, Nolan Pudwill went 3-3 in the loss, while Aiden Zerr collected 2 hits in the leadoff spot.


Brandon Valley 15, Brookings 2 (5 IN)

The Lynx responded with 11 hits in game 2 to secure the home split.

Sam Sejnoha drove in 3 runs for the winners, while Zerr added on with another 4 hits.

Also for BV, Daniel Buteyn and Pudwill had 2 hits in the victory.


Washington 4, Tea 2

Myles Rees hit a 2-RBI double in the top of the 7th to take the lead before the Warriors finished the contest with a shutout inning from winning pitcher Dylan Barck.

For Tea, Logan Boom had 2 base knocks in the leadoff spot.


O’Gorman 7, Lincoln 5

The Knights tied the game on a 2-RBI triple in the 5th from Hunter Den Boer before Jake Wheeler knocked in the go-ahead run in the next at-bat.

O’Gorman then held on to the win behind the arm of Trenton Fischer, who closed the contest with a 1-2-3 inning.

Den Boer had 3 hits in the win to lead the way for the Knights, while Sully Schlimgen, Joe Niedringhaus and Billy Laible all connected for 2 hits.

For Lincoln, Sawyer Tolk scored 3 times on 3 hits.


Sturgis 13, Central 0 (5 IN)

The Scoopers sealed the victory with a 7-run rally in the 4th.

Both Hunter Janzen and Owen Cass had multiple hits in the contest, while Cass went the distance with 8 strikeouts on the mound.


Class B

Bon Homme 10, Scotland/Menno 0 (5 IN)

The Cavaliers clinched their spot atop the Region 1B standings with a perfect game from Riley Rothschadl.

The senior punched out 13 of the 15 batters in the win, while also connecting for 2 hits at the plate.

Fellow Cavs Landon Bares, Logan Winckler and Landon Smith all had 2 hits each in the victory and Jackson Caba rounded out the lineup with a 3-3 performance.


Winner/Colome 3, STM 1

The Royals picked up a huge win to secure a host spot in Region 4.

Ethan Bartles lead the effort with 10 strikeouts in 5 innings of work while teammates Zac Olson and Max Brozik each finished with 2 hits.

For STM, Holden Griswold was a perfect 4-4 in the contest.


Tea 10, Washington 6

The Titans bounced back with 10 hits at the plate to earn the split with Washington.

Logan Boom got the win on the mound and 3 hits at the plate, and teammate Teagan Dedula complimented with 2 hits of his own.


Wagner 3, Canton 1

Wagner put up two runs in the first frame, which was all that was needed for Carter Cournoyer.

The winning pitcher for the Red Raiders struck out 10 in the complete game effort, while only giving up 3 hits.

At the plate, Matt Link scored twice.


Dell Rapids 7, West Central 2

The Quarriers scored all 7 runs in the first 2 innings to secure the win over the Trojans.

Jack Henry struck out 12 in 5 2/3 innings to earn the win for Dells, while also going 2-2 at the plate with 2 walks.

Fellow Quarriers Joe Rechtenbaugh and Treyse Eastman each drove in a pair of runs for the victors.


Dakota Valley 6, Vermillion 1

Dakota Valley picked up a victory behind the arm of Jake Pruchniak.

Pruchniak struck out 15 Tangers in 6 innings of work, while scattering 4 hits in the win.

At the plate, Isaac Bruns went 2-3 with an RBI and Jaxon Hennies drove in a pair of runs.


Madison 5, Sioux Valley 3

The Bulldogs clinched the victory behind a 3-run 5th inning rally.

Jared Kennington had 2 hits in the contest for the winners, while Connor Gross went 3-4 for Sioux Valley.


Howard 10, Elkton 0 (6 IN)

Howard finalized an undefeated run through Region 2 with an early victory over the Blue Sox.

Luke Koepsell was lights out on the mound, as the winning pitcher gave up just 2 hits and struck out 10 batters in 5 innings on the bump.

At the plate, Colby Claussen went 2-3 with a pair of RBIs in the leadoff spot and teammate Griffin Clubb scored 3 times.


Lennox 10, SFC 0 (6 IN)

The Orioles jumped out to an early 7-0 lead through the first 2 innings and cruised to the victory over the Chargers.

Talen Eich connected for a solo shot in the 4th inning on his way to a 3-RBI day, while Isaac Bambas drove in 2 Orioles and scored a pair of runs himself in the leadoff spot.

On the mound, Conner Eich went the distance with 12 strikeouts.


Baltic 15, Garretson 0 (4 IN)

The Bulldogs put up a crooked number in every frame on their way to a big win over the Blue Dragons.

Matt Muston crushed a triple among 3 hits for the victors while teammates Tayden Hansen and Tate Feucht each had 2 base knocks.


C/F/M 12, Centerville 2 (6 IN)

Evan Scharberg struck out 12 and Sawyer Wipf collected 2 hits as the Sticks cruised to the victory.
