Girls Basketball Daily Recap (1/9): Volmer Leads Lyman With 28 Points

Class AA

Mitchell 44, Huron 41

The Kernels battled back from a late 9-point deficit to continue their undefeated season. Lauren VanOverschelde lead the effort with 15 points.


Class A

C/WL 47, Castlewood 43

Clark/Willow Lake picked up their second straight road victory as Kamryn Nesheim and Tehya Vig each scored 11 points.

For Castlewood, Sophia Kudrna finished with 15 points.

Great Plains Lutheran 51, Estelline/Hendricks 36

Halle Bauer scored 14 points to lead the Panthers to the road victory. For the Redhawks, Kenzy Beare led with 14.

Hanson 71, MC/M 57

The Beaverettes dropped 21 points in the final quarter to secure the win. Hanson was lead by Alyssa Moschell with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Kylie Haiar also scored 16 in the victory and Caden Jarding finished with 13.

For the Fighting Cougars, Abby Wagner scored 15.

Milbank 79, Tiospa Zina 21

The Bulldogs cruised to victory as Isabella Anderson finished with a game-high 15 points. Teammates Belle Pauli, Claire Snaza and Tyra Berry each scored 12.

RC Christian 57, Sturgis 43

The Lady Comets kicked off the doubleheader sweep behind 22 points from Hayden Thorton and 11 points from Sadie Marshall.


Class B

Howard 54, De Smet 40

Abby Aslesen helped the Tigers to their eighth win of the season with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Teammates Tana Hoyer (7 pts, 8 reb) and Ann Connor (7 pts, 10 reb) also had key performances.

For De Smet, Hazel Luethmers finished with a game-high 20 points.

Lower Brule 49, Sunshine Bible Academy 32

Lael Middletent pulled down 15 rebounds on her way to 12 points in the win. Brilyn LaRoche also scored 14 points for the winners.

Lyman 72, Kadoka Area 50

Skyler Volmer dropped 28 points to go along with 7 steals to lead the Raiders to another victory. Jordyn Scott (15 pts) and Mak Scott (13 pts) also reached double figures, while teammate Brooke Palmer completed a 11-14 double-double.

Warner 37, Hitchcock-Tulare 31

The Monarchs won a tough defensive battle in Tulare. Kyra Marcuson led the offensive attack for the winners with 14 points, and Cambree Hoekman scored 11 for the Patriots.

Wolsey-Wessington 40, Aberdeen Christian 34

Kendal Uttecht (11 pts) and Payton Kemnitz (10 pts) combine for 21 points to elevate W-W to the victory.
