South Dakota Baseball Weekend Recap (5/3): Sutton Hits Walk-Off Home Run, Jensen Hits Walk-Off In Extra Innings

April 30th:

Roosevelt 5, Pierre 2

Charlie Jensen threw the complete game victory for Roosevelt, striking out 8 along with 1 walk and 2 hits. Teammate Mason Reiley was also 2-3 with a double and Billy Chatwell scored twice with 2 walks. For Pierre, Maguire Raske was 2-3 with an r.b.i.

Roosevelt 7, Pierre 0

Ben Irsfeld struck out 12 in 6 innings for Roosevelt, giving up just 1 hit and 1 walk in the victory. Mason Reiley had 2 doubles for the Rough Riders and Marcus Phillips walked twice with a hit. For Pierre, Andy Gordon was 1-2 with a walk.

Harrisburg 5, Yankton 2

Yankton scored twice in the top of the 7th but Harrisburg secured the victory on a flyout to Kai Yungbluth.

Lincoln Carlson was the top hitter for Harrisburg, getting 2 runs with 2 hits and Chase Lucas also threw 3 innings for the Tigers, striking out 1 with 2 hits and no runs. For Yankton Mac Ryken walked twice and Kaden Luellman was 1-3 with a run scored.

Harrisburg 7, Yankton 5

Jack Sutton hit a walk-off home run to left field as Harrisburg secured the sweep. Tyson Kogel also had a home run for the Tigers and Chase Lucas finished with 3 hits. For Yankton, Connor Teichroew had 2 hits and Landon Loecker was 2-2 with a run scored.

Bon Homme/Avon 4, Parkston/Ethan/Tripp 3

Bon Homme/Avon scored three runs on two errors in the top of the 7th to earn the victory. Landon Bares was 2-3 with a run scored for Bon Homme/Avon and Easton Mudder was walked twice. In the loss, Parkston/Ethan/Tripp Isaak Bialas had 2 r.b.i.

Vermillion 3, Dakota Valley 2 (8 in.)

Jake Jensen had the walk-off sacrifice fly to elevate Vermillion to the victory.

Willis Robertson had the win for the Tanagers, throwing 5 innings in relief and gave up just 1 walk. Teammate Jack Kratz also went 2-2 and Connor Saunder scored twice with a hit and a walk. For Dakota Valley, Jaxon Hennies was 2-4 and Hunter Beving had 2 r.b.i. in the loss.

Dell Rapids 16, Baltic 0 (5 in.)

Jack Henry threw the complete game victory for Dell Rapids, striking out 11 with 3 hits and 2 walks. Treyse Eastman hit 2 doubles in victory and Brayden Pankonen scored twice with 2 hits. Teammate Kaeden Eastman also batted in 3 runs and scored twice for Dell Rapids, while Tayden Hansen walked twice for Baltic.

Brandon Valley 14, Central 4

Trey Sejnoha was 3-3 for the Lynx and Carson Askdal was 3-4 with 2 runs in the victory. Noah Bertsch also had 3 r.b.i. for Brandon Valley and Peyton Carroll had 2 doubles.

For Central, Kyle Schlueter was 2-3 with 2 r.b.i. and Kayden Jones was 2-2.

Brandon Valley 15, Douglas 0 (5 in.)

Noah Bertsch and Justin Reinschmidt gave up just 1 hit in the victory for the Lynx. Trey Sejnoha also hit 2 doubles for Brandon Valley and Sam Olthoff was 2-2 with 3 r.b.i. while Logan Kelling went 2-2 with 2 walks and 2 r.b.i.

Redfield Area 14, M/HH/WW 7

Fehi Faonelua struck out 11 in 6 innings and was 2-3 with a home run to lead Redfield Area to the victory. Camden Osborn had 2 hits as well and Peyton Osborn finished the game with 3 r.b.i.

For M/HH/WW, Hunter VanNieuwenhuyse was 3-4 with 2 runs and Kaden Krutzfeldt had 4 r.b.i.

Howard 15, Webster Area 0 (3 in.)

Luke Koepsell threw a perfect game for Howard, striking out 8. Jaxon Kampshoff also had 4 r.b.i. and a home run for the Tigers, while Ryder Erickson walked and scored twice.

Lincoln 11, O’Gorman 9

O’Gorman nearly erased a 10-run lead for Lincoln, but the Patriots secured the victory with an additional run in the bottom of the 6th.

Nate Sprenkle and Sam Stukel both had 3 hits in the victory and Reece Arbogast scored twice with two walks.

Clark/Willow Lake 17, Elkton 6

Alex Morris had 2 doubles and drove in 5 runs for Clark/Willow Lake and Bradin Althoff scored 4 times in the victory. Pierre Ketterling also scored 4 times with 2 walks and Logan Kuehl had 2 hits for Elkton.


May 1st

Sturgis 15, Douglas 0 (4 in.)

Thor Sundstrom hit an inside-the-park home run to start the game and Sturgis cruised the victory soon after.

Owen Cass had 3 r.b.i. for the Scoopers and Kade Olson scored 3 times while teammate RJ Andrzejewski was 2-2 with 2 walks.

Sturgis 15, Douglas 3 (5 in.)

Sturgis completed the sweep with a 5 inning victory. Thor Sundstrom hit a second inside-the-park home run in the series, and Kelton Olson was 2-3 with a triple and 3 runs scored. For Douglas, Lucas Giersberg was 2-3 with 3 r.b.i. and Noah Usera scored twice.

Parkston/Ethan/Tripp 10, McCook Central/Montrose/Canistota 9

A 7-run 5th inning elevated Parkston/Ethan/Tripp to the victory. Landon Sudbeck had 3 runs and Jay Storm scored twice with 2 hits and 2 r.b.i. in the victory while Bobby Koepsell was 4-4 with 3 runs and 3 r.b.i. for McCook Central/Montrose/Canistota.

Brandon Valley 31, Stevens 0 (3 in.)

Brandon Valley scored 20 runs in the 3rd inning. Nick Hokenstad and Peyton Carroll combined for the no-hitter and Trey Sejnoha hit a grand slam in the victory. Also for the Lynx, Carson Askdal scored 5 runs with 4 r.b.i. and 3 hits.

Brandon Valley 18, Stevens 2 (5 in.)

Landon Niehoff was 3-3 with a triple, a double and 3 runs scored for the Lynx. Peyton Carroll also had a triple and a double with 3 runs scored while Noah Bertsch had 2 doubles.

Lincoln 15, Yankton 0 (4 in.)

Jackson Geerts struck out 6 with 4 hits and 1 walk in the complete game victory. Ryne Hammerstorm was 2-3 with 2 runs and triple for Lincoln while Payton Hughes had 4 r.b.i. and Oscar Lockwood-Powell was 2-2 with 2 r.b.i.

PGDCWLCS 10, Hot Springs 0 (6 in.)

Dawson Hoffman struck out 14 in the complete game victory, giving up just 1 hit in the win. Teammate Grayson Hanson scored 3 runs with a triple and Kade Knudson was 2-3 with 2 runs scored. Also for the Honkers, Aiden Bultje drew 2 walks and batted in 2 runs.

For Hot Springs, Hayden VanBibber had the lone hit.

Pierre 4, Yankton 1

Lincoln Kienholz was the top hitter for Pierre, going 4-4 with a triple in the victory. Bennett Dean also had a triple and scored twice, while Dylan Prouty was 1-3 with a run scored for Yankton.

Pierre 11, O’Gorman 10 (8 in.)

Jacob Mayer hit an r.b.i. single in the top of the 8th to earn the victory for Pierre. Mayer finished the game with 4 hits while Lincoln Kienholz was 3-5 with a triple and Matthew Hanson scored twice with 2 hits.

For the Knights, Sam Stukel had 4 r.b.i. and TJ Free was 3-4 with 2 runs scored.

Bon Homme/Avon 7, Scotland/Menno 1

Easton Mudder was 2-3 with 2 runs scored in the victory while Landon Smith scored twice. Teammates Trent Herrbolte and Kaleb Kaubal also had 2 hits each while Josh Heckenliable went 2-3 for Scotland/Menno.

Hamlin Area 4, Clark/Willow Lake 0

Nicholai Arbach struck out 15 in 7 innings while giving up just 1 hit and 2 walks for Hamlin Area. Alex Morris nearly matched with 11 strikeouts in 5 innings for Clark/Willow Lake. Carson Pederson had 2 hits in the victory while teammate Griffin Clubb also had 2 r.b.i. for Hamlin Area. Lucas Kannegieter was 1-2 with a walk in the loss.

Game 1: Billings (Mt.) 13, Central 0 Game 2: Billings (Mt.) 18, Central 1

Kyle Schlueter had the lone hit for Central in game 1 and had 2 hits in game 2. Also in game 2, Kayden Jones went 2-3 with a double and a run.


May 2nd

Billings (Mt.) 15, Stevens 5

Jesse Riemenschneider was 2-4 with a double and 2 r.b.i. for Stevens. Joseph Hill was also walked twice in the loss.

Stevens 9, Billings (Mt.) 8

Haiden Studer hit a walk-off single to elevate Stevens to the victory. Connor Knudsen also went 4-4 with 3 r.b.i. for Stevens while Gavin Skinner had 3 hits. Teammate Spencer Pigman finished the game with scored twice with 3 r.b.i. on 2 hits.

Madison 11, Huron 0

Logan Allbee hit a home run and Aspen Dahl went 4-5 with a double in the victory. Peyton Wolf also scored twice for Madison.

Dakota Valley 10, Bon Homme/Avon 0 (5 in.)

Paul Bruns threw the complete game victory, striking out 7 and gave up just 1 hit with 1 walk. Brayden Major was 2-2 in the victory with 2 runs scored and Isaac Bruns had 3 r.b.i.

For Bon Homme, Trent Herboldt had the lone hit.

Brookings 5, Mitchell 4

Max Kjelden doubled in the bottom of the 7th to earn the walk-off victory for Brookings. Jake Ammann was also 2-3 in the win while Jamison Honkomp had 2 r.b.i. and a triple.

For Mitchell, Jonah Schmidt was 2-4 with 2 runs scored.

Brookings 7, Mitchell 6

Brookings scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th and a double by Lincoln Hardin secured the 2nd walk-off victory for the Bobcats. Jamison Honkomp also had a triple and Nick Lord had 2 hits for Mitchell.

Hamlin Area 13, Webster Area 3 (6 in.)

Griffin Clubb batted in 4 runs with a triple and a double in the victory. Cameron Thue also went 3-3 with 3 runs scored and Xander Sheehan was 2-3 with 2 walks and 3 runs scored.

Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central 6, Hamlin Area 2

Dylan Schimke walked 3 times in the win and Gerrit Bradenburg scored twice. For Hamlin Area, Cameron Thue was 1-3 with a run scored and Nicholai Arbach batted in both runs.

Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central 12, Webster Area 0

Gerrit Bradenburg struck out 11 and gave up 2 hits with a walk in the complete game victory. Cooper Hainy also was 3-4 with 2 r.b.i. and Bradenburg batted in 4 hits with 2 hits.

Sioux Valley 10, Clark/Willow Lake 0 (6 in.)

Parker Puetz and Damien Danzeisen combined for the 1-hit win. Puetz was 2-3 with 3 r.b.i. in the victory and Connor Gross scored 3 times. Also for Sioux Valley, Jake Ziegler was 2-4 with 2 r.b.i. and Alex Morris had the lone hit for Clark/Willow Lake.

Chester/Colman-Egan/Flandreau scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to secure the victory.

Sam Gassman had 2 hits in the victory and teammate Kolby Peters batted in 2 runs. Jackson Remmers had 1 hit with a walk and an r.b.i. in the loss.

Braden Eimers had 2 doubles and scored 3 times in the victory for the Bulldogs. Zack Whitlock also had 2 r.b.i. and Nathan Ricke scored 3 runs on 3 walks. On the mound for Madison, Ashton Nills threw all 5 innings, striking out 9 with 3 hits.
