BASEBALL RECAP (4/17): Yankton Earns Sweep, Lennox + Tea Walk Off

Yankton 8, Mitchell 2

Drew Ryken threw a complete game victory for the Bucks, striking out 4 while giving up just 1 earned run in the contest.

Ryken also smashed 3 hits in the victory and teammate Lucas Kampshoff drove in 5 RBIs on 2 triples.

For Mitchell, Dylan Soulek went 2-3 with an RBI.

Yankton 10, Mitchell 7

The Bucks rallied for a 5-run 5th inning to earn the sweep, highlighted by a 3-RBI double from Josh Sheldon.

Kampshoff continued his electric hitting with 3 hits and a trio of RBIs in the game, while Rugby Ryken, Drew Ryken and Matthew Sheldon all connected for 2 hits each in the win.

For the Kernels, Lincoln Bates had a pair of hits in the leadoff spot and Karter Sibson drew 3 walks.


Tea 8, Lincoln 7

Clayton Schwebach hit a walk-off for the Titans after a late 4-run rally in the final frame for the victors.

Also for Tea, Teagan Dedula drove in 3 runs on a pair of hits and Logan Boomsma drew 4 walks in the contest.

In the loss, Sawyer Mindt and Chase DuBois had 3 hits each, including a pair of doubles from Mindt.

Lincoln 5, Tea 0

Jorgen Sorum was excellent on the mound in game 2, striking out 7 while scattering 4 hits in the complete game victory.

Teammate Colin Lunders also smashed 2 doubles among 3 hits, while Clayton Schwebach had 2 hits of his own in the loss.


Dakota Valley 2, EP-J 1

The Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning off of an RBI single from Isaac Bruns, and Beau Pollema held off the Huskies’ offensive attack to get the victory.

Pollema struck out 11 batters in 5 2/3 innings of work while giving up just 2 hits and scattering 5 walks in the win. Jake Pruchniak then struck out 3 batters to earn the save.


Lennox 6, Madison 5

Corban Hanneman elevated the Orioles to the victory with a 2-out walk-off.

Ashton Bach also had 2 RBIs and a pair of runs in the win, while Jared Kennington finished with 2 hits in the loss.


Dell Rapids 11, C/C-E/F 0 (5 IN)

The Quarriers bounced back from a loss last Friday to Lennox and took care of business with 8 hits at the plate.

Treyse Eastman connected for 2 of those hits, including a triple, while teammates Mason Stubbe and Jack Henry each scored a pair of runs off of multiple walks.

On the mound, Tad Tjaden completed the shutout effort with six strikeouts and stranded 5 baserunners.


Baltic 7, Vermillion 2

Baltic rallied for 4-runs in the 5th inning, and held off the Tanagers for the win.

Riley Schultz lead the way with 10 strikeouts in 5 innings of work, and teammate Jose Valadez connected for a pair of base hits in the win.

Also for the Bulldogs, Beau Keith smashed a triple and drove in 2 runs.


Bon Homme 16, Freeman/Canistota 0

(5 IN)

Logan Winckler had a big day for the Cavaliers, giving up just 1 hit with 6 strikeouts on the mound and driving in 3 runs at the plate.

Also in the win, Landon Bares and Jace Toupal connected for 2 hits each, Easton Mudder drove in 3 baserunners, and Riley Rothschadl scored a trio of runs on 3 walks in the leadoff spot.


SFC 13, Canton 3 (5 IN)

The Chargers exploded for 10 runs in the 2nd inning and held off a late C-Hawks’ rally to earn the early victory.

Jacob Sanderson lead the way with a 3-3 performance, driving in 2 runs and scoring a pair for SFC. Teammate Gabe Long also complete a 2-hit day, while Jacob Docter reached first safely in a trio of at-bats.

On the mound, Elijah VanNieuwenhujzen scattered 6 walks and did not give up a hit in 4 innings of work.
