Baseball Recap (5/13): Prorok Strikes Out 18, Pats Earn Shutout

Class A

Lincoln 5, O’Gorman 0

SIOUX FALLS- Chase DuBois (3 IN, 3 K) led a quartet of pitchers to earn the shutout victory. Ethan Olson (2 IN, 1 K), Kasen Christiansen (1 IN, 2 K) and Nate Motl (1 IN, 2 K) completed the work on the mound and Ryan Hirsch drew two walks at the plate. Brayden Olson also scored two runs on a double and a walk for the Pats.

For O’Gorman, Trenton Fischer went 2-3.


Class B

Region 1B

Dakota Valley 9, Vermillion 4

VERMILLION- Drew Lukken had a big performance for the Panthers, going 4-4 with four RBIs, a HBP and a stolen base. Teammates Jackson Boonstra and Beau Jones also each had two hits at the top of the order. On the mound, Garrett Anderson earned the win with three shutout innings in relief.

For Vermillion, Trey Hansen scored a run with two hits.

Scotland/Menno 2, Parker 1

MENNO- Kory Keppen punched out six batters in three innings of relief to help the Trappers to a huge win. Jayce Walloch connected for two hits and earned a RBI to lead the way at the plate. With the win, Scotland/Menno now holds the seven seed in the region and a spot in the postseason.

In the loss, Ray Travnicek went 3-4 with a double and a run, and Luke Travnicek went 2-3.

C/F/M 9, Wagner 0

FREEMAN- Evan Scharberg led the way with four innings of work on the mound as the Sticks completed the shutout. Scharberg also had a pair of hits at the plate and teammates Tannen Auch and Riley Tschetter both connected for multiple hits.

For Wagner, Javian Pesicka went 2-3 with a HBP and a stolen base in the leadoff spot.

P/E/T 10, C/V-H 3

CENTERVILLE- Mason Jervik struck out three batters in three no-hit innings of relief to help P/E/T earn the win. At the plate, Brayden Jervik had a double, a triple and 4 RBIs. Taite Klumb also had a home run in a multi-hit performance and Brody Boettcher went 2-3 with a walk.

Caleb Fischer drew two walks and scored a run in the loss.

Region 2B

W-I-N 12, Redfield Area 8

REDFIELD- W-I-N broke the game open with a six-run rally in the sixth inning and scored three more runs in the seventh inning in the victory.

Levi Little hit two doubles in a 3-4 performance, while also driving in four runs. Alec Mikkelson also had two hits, including a double, to go along with three RBIs and Gavin Lane scored twice via three walks.

For Redfield, Eli Morrissette, Micah Zastrow, and Noah Johnson each had two hits in the middle of the order, and Hunter Binger collected three walks.

Madison/Chester 8, Sioux Valley 1

VOLGA- JD Prorok struck out 18 batters while scattering four hits and walk in a complete game effort for the victors.

Offensively, Eli Barger hit a double and a home run while also scoring three runs for M/C. Quincy Kurtz complimented with two runs, two RBIs and three hits.

For SV, Tate Steffensen had two hits in the leadoff spot.

Region 3B

Baltic 8, HBE 6

ALEXANDRIA- Baltic put together a four-run rally in the final frame to earn the road win in the battle for the eighth seed in Region 3.

Braxton Allen had three hits and three RBIs in the win and teammates Tate Feucht and Jackson Goehring each had two hits.

Brayden Bahmuller scored three times to go along with a hit, a walk and a HBP for HBE.

MVPCS 4, SFC 2

SIOUX FALLS- The Padres earned the big victory as Tyce Feistner ( 5 IN, 8 K) and Isaiah Olson (2 IN, 2 K) combined for the shutout.

Teammate Cain Tobin led the way at the plate with a walk, two hits and two RBIs in the win and Brady Fox and Jarrett Olawsky each drew two walks.

Dell Rapids 12, West Central 2 (6 IN)

HUMBOLDT- Dell Rapids completed an undefeated regular season run in Class B with a great offensive performance. Jack Henry went 4-4 with three RBIs, two runs and a walk in the leadoff spot, and Mason Stubbe followed with three RBIs, three hits and two walks.

Also for the victors, Drake Eastman drove in a run on two hits and Tad Tjaden went 2-2 with a pair of walks.

In the loss, Brodie Herr went 2-3 with a RBI.

McCook 5, Garretson 2

GARRETSON- The Burros collected 10 hits in the road contest. Clayten Hoffman had four of those aforementioned hits, including two doubles. Owen Alley (3-4, 1 R) and Zane McCormick (2-4, 2 RBI, 1 R) also had multi-hit games.

For Garretson, Cole Jessen reached first base three times via two walks and a base hit.

Lennox 11, BAH 3

LENNOX- Talen Eich hit two doubles, scored twice and drove in another three runs to lead the Orioles against the out-of-region foe.

Braxton Musser also went 2-3 with two RBIs and two runs, Cole Spieler scored three times and Ramsey Williams had three RBIs in the victory.

For the Black Sox, Ethan Bovill had three base hits and a trio of stolen bases and Joseph Anderson went 2-4.

Region 4B

Bennett County 3, Lead-Deadwood 2

MARTIN- Gavin Risse struck out five batters and gave up just one hit in three innings of relief to help Bennett County to the home victory. Offensively, Risse and Rush O’Neill had two hits each.

For L-D, Drew Janke had a walk, a double and a home run.
