BASEBALL RECAP (5/14): Govs & Bobcats Sweep

Class A

Pierre 5, Stevens 2

The Govs rallied for 3 runs in the 2nd inning and held off a late Raider’s rally for the win.

On the mound, Lincoln Kienholz struck out 13 in 5 1/3 innings of work.

Kienholz also finished with a pair of runs on 2 base hits in the leadoff position, while teammate Dawson Getz also connected for 2 singles in the win.

For Stevens, Cooper Morlang finished with 2 hits in the loss.

Pierre 7, Stevens 6

George Stalley hit a sacrifice fly to walk-off the sweep for the Governors.

Jett Zabel had 3 hits in the contest for the winners and Kienholz encored his game 1 performance with a 6th inning home run.


Brookings 11, Huron 0

The Bobcats cruised to victory behind a 1-hit performance on the bump from Nate Lease.

At the plate, Breck Hirrschoff drove in 4 runs.

Brookings 4, Huron 0

Hirrschoff stepped up onto the mound for game 2 and threw a complete game 3-hitter to earn the win for the Bobcats.

Teammate Justin Coffell went 2-3 with 2 runs, while Will Conrad and Austin Clark both finished with a single and 2 walks in the victory.


Class B

Madison 16, ORR/A 0 (3 IN)

Lucas Johnson struck out 4 batters in 3 innings of work to lead the way for the Bulldogs.

Madison collected 12 hits at the plate, including 3 base knocks from Hayden Kane and 2 each from Thomas Mechels and Braxton Bjorklund.

Sioux Valley 12, ORR/A 1 (6 IN)

Chris Moberg completed a 2-hit, 10 strikeout performance on the mound as the Cossacks cruised to the victory.

Teammate Kyler Bezdichek drove in a pair of runs on 2 hits, while Tate Steffensen connected for 2 hits of his own.


Belle Fourche 3, CKL 2

Nolan Wahlfeldt hit a 2-RBI single in the top of the 6th to take the lead for the Broncs and Belle Fourche later held on for the victory despite a late CKL rally with an Aiden Voyles RBI sac fly in the 7th.

PGDCWL 4, Belle Fourche 1

The Honkers took home the victory behind 13 strikeouts from Caden Oberbroekling.

Joey Foxley also collected a pair of hits in the win and Aiden Bultje drew 2 walks in the leadoff spot.
