BASEBALL RECAP (5/9): Bruns Hits Walk-Off For Panthers

Class A

Mitchell 6, Washington 5

Lincoln Bates bunted in Karter Sibson in the top of 7th to give the Kernels the lead before Bates held off the Warriors in the final frame to earn the win.

Bates finished with 3 shutout innings of relief while fellow Kernels Gavin Soukup and Hudson Haley each had 2 hits in the win.

For the Warriors, Camden Hvam lead the way with a pair of base knocks and Nick Olson drove in 2 runs.


Brandon Valley 7, Jefferson 1

Dawson Mork hit a pair of triples as the Lynx connected for 5 extra-base hits in the win.

Cole Frisbie collected one of those extra base hits, a double, while striking out 5 on the mound.

Brandon Valley 5, Jefferson 1

The Lynx clinched the series behind 4 shutout innings from Aiden Zerr.

Zerr finished with 8 strikeouts to earn the save.

At the plate, Frisbie and Mork each finished with 2 more hits and teammate Nolan Pudwill added on with 2 base knocks of his own.


O’Gorman 2, Yankton 1

The Bucks made a late rally with a RBI-double off the bat of Mac Ryken in the final frame, but the Knights held on for the road victory.

Bennett Dannenbring was the winning pitcher for the Knights with 9 strikeouts and just 1 hit in 6 1/3 innings of work.

At the plate, Trenton Fischer drove in both runs for the victors.

Yankton 3, O’Gorman 0

The Bucks battled back with a split behind 3 hits each from Ryken and Lucas Kampshoff.

On the mound, Isaiah Schelhass completed 5 shutout innings before Mark Kathol closed the door with 2 strikeouts.


Lincoln 6, Brookings 1

Jorgen Sorum scattered 2 hits and a pair of walks to lead the Patriots to victory in Brookings.

Fellow Patriot Chase DuBois connected for 2 hits while Brycen Mitchell and Ryan Hirsch each knocked in a pair of runs in the win.

Brookings 3, Lincoln 2 (9 IN)

Justin Cofell scored on a wild pitch to end the duel between the Bobcats and the Patriots.

Nathan Lease had 3 hits to lead the way for Brookings, while Cofell, Zach Struck and Austin Clark each had multi-hit games.

For Lincoln, both Mitchell and Nate Motl had a single and a double in the loss.


Class B

Dakota Valley 5, EP-J 4 (8 IN)

Isaac Bruns scored Brendan Barnett on a walk-off ground ball to earn the Panthers a hard-fought victory.

Dakota Valley nearly took the lost in regulation after a 3-run 5th inning from the Huskies, but the Panthers rallied for 2 runs each in the 6th and 7th to extend the contest.

Jaxson Hennies lead the way with a 3-3 performance, while Barnett and Randy Rosenquist each finished with a pair of hits.

Also for the Panthers, Beau Pollema hit a 2-RBI double in aforementioned 6th inning that proved to be critical to DV’s win.


Baltic 8, Tri-Valley 5

The Mustangs made a furious rally for 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th, but Baltic held on for the victory.

Riley Schultz lead the way with 8 strikeouts in 6 shutout innings, while also connecting for 2 hits in the leadoff spot.

For the Mustangs, Everett Althoff had a 3-4 day.


West Central 4, SFC 1

A 3-run rally in the 3rd inning proved to be the difference maker for the Trojans.

Owen Heath was excellent on the mound, striking out 10 batters in 5 innings while scattering 7 base runners for the win.


Elkton 21, ORR/A 8

Ashton Neil blasted a home run on his way to a 4-hit performance as the Blue Sox cruised to victory.

Teammate Jack Stein also drove in 5 runs for the winners and Eliot Erickson finished with 4 RBIs and 5 runs scored on 2 hits from the leadoff spot.

Hamlin Area 11, ORR/A 1 (6 IN)

Watson Grantham struck out 10 Rebels on the mound and collected 3 hits at the plate to lead Hamlin Area in the win.

Battery mate Tyler Tharaldsen scored 3 runs on a trio of hits and Gavin Maag crushed 2 doubles for the victors.


P/E/T 11, Parker 1 (5 IN)

The Trojans connected for 9 hits to make quick work of the road trip.

Luke Bormann and Brayden Jervik each collected 2 hits and 3 RBIs to lead the way, while Bormann also scored 4 times in the leadoff spot.


STM 11, Hot Springs 1 (5 IN)

Tyson Durham crushed 3 hits and struck out 5 batters in 2 innings on the mound help the Cavs earn the victory.

Teammate Chase Donnelly drove in 3 runs and Turner Thompson received the win with 5 strikeouts in 3 innings of work.


RC Christian 9, Douglas 1

The Comets rallied for 3 runs in the 1st and finished with 4 runs in the final frame to secure the victory.

Cayden Von Eye connected for a dinger in the leadoff spot and fellow Comets Bensen Kieffer and Blaine Bolton each had 2 hits in the win.
