Boys Basketball Daily Recap (1/18): Spartans Win the 281 Conference Tournament

Class AA

Mitchell 57, Lincoln 51

In a back-and-forth battle, the Kernels finally pulled away with a late three from Gavin Soukup.

Soukup hit 4 threes in the win and scored 16 points, while teammate Colton Smith had a game-high 18 points in the contest.

For Lincoln, Braxton Mohr led the Pats with 17 points and Tate Schafer scored 14.

Washington 58, Marshall (MN) 36

The Warriors took down an out-of-state foe behind a balanced effort. Tommy Hoffman (13 pts), Lubab Kambalo (12 pts) and Jhace Woods (11 pts) each scored in double-figures in the win.


Class A

Dell Rapids 55, Madison 53

Jack Henry scored 32 points to lead the Quarriers to victory. Cole Ruesink also scored 10 in the contest.

Deuel 66, Tiospa Zina 55

Trey Maaland hit 5 threes on his way to 27 points in the win. Teammate Troy Jensen passed out 9 assists on his way to 12 points for the Cardinals and Gabe Sather finished with 12 points.

For the Wambdi, Carvin Fish scored 31.

Groton Area 61, Milbank 28

Lane Tietz finished with 24 points for the victors.

Hamlin 83, Redfield 19

The Chargers cruised to victory with a balanced effort. Tyson Stevenson led with 14, while Easton Neuendorf (11 pts), Jackson Wadsworth (10 pts) and Jameson Nebel (10 pts) each scored in the double figures.

Lennox 49, West Central 43

The Orioles picked up a great win on the road. Braxton Musser led the effort with 19 and Tate Gerdes added on 14 points.

For WC, Crew Heier scored 15 and Jake Kul pulled down 8 rebounds.


Class B

L/FA 69, Northwestern 31

Brayden Sumption scored 17 first half points and ended the contest with 20 points to lead L/FA to the win.

For Northwestern, Nathan Melius dropped 13.

Wessington Springs 61, SC/W 47

The Spartans pulled away in the fourth quarter to secure the 281 Conference Championship.

Parker Graff led Wessington Springs with 24 points and Ryder Michalek finished with 16. Blake Larson also hit 5 free throws in the final eight minutes to help the victors to victory.

Wolsey-Wessington 64, JVC 49

The Warbirds bounced back to take 3rd place at the 281 Conference Tournament behind a 22-12 double-double from Tate French. Moshe Richmond also pulled down 10 rebounds and scored 15 points to help W-W to the win and Caleb Richmond scored 15.

Highmore-Harrold 69, Hitchcock-Tulare 53

Trake Cowan led the Pirates to a 5th place finish at the 281 Conference Tournament with 22 points. Teammates Aidan Ferens and Aitor Ortega also chipped in 14 points.

For the Patriots, Erik Salmen finished with 15 points.
