Boys Basketball Daily Recap (1/9): Schumacher Hits 9 Threes For Miller, Jensen Leads De Smet to Tough Victory

Class AA

Mitchell 67, Huron 56

The Kernels finished the home stand with an excellent victory. Colton Smith dropped 20 for the home squad, while Markus Talley (8 stl) and Gavin Soukup each scored 15.

For Huron, Blake Ellwein (15 pts), Gavin Moeding (14 pts), CJ Gainey (12 pts) and Carsen Evans (11 pts) each scored in the double figures.

Pierre 60, Winner 55

The Govs picked up a huge road victory with a late comeback that propelled them to the overtime win. Luke Olson finished with 18 in the win, while Jett Zabel (17 pts) and Dawson Getz (15 pts) provided key performances.

For Winner, Aiden Barfuss led the game with 23 points and Shawn Hammerbeck scored 19.


Class A

Deuel 43, Arlington 25

Trey Maaland made a trio of shots behind the arc and scored 16 points in the win. Also for Deuel, Trey Jenson (14 pts) and Gabe Sather (10 pts) reached double-figures.

For Arlington, Paxton Rheault led with 15.

Estelline/Hendricks 49, Great Plains Lutheran 48

Martin Krenz scored 11 points in the loss.

Miller 72, Redfield 34

Alex Schumacher hit 9 threes to help him finish with 29 points for the victors. Teammate Isaak Hunter had a 13-10 double-double and Derek Brueggeman scored 15 for the Rustlers.

In the loss, Justin Ratigan pulled down 14 boards to go along with 16 points, and Tristen O’Daniel scored 18.

Waubay/Summit 62, Sisseton 36

Jackson Wohlleber dropped 20 in the win for the Mustangs. Teammate Camden Neilan also scored 17 in the win.


Class B

De Smet 56, Howard 46

The Bulldogs held off the Tigers behind 8 fourth quarter points from George Jensen. Jensen finished with 23 points in the effort, while Grant Wilkinson scored 16 in the post.

For the Tigers, Kolt Koepsell led with 16.

L/FA 59, North Central 28

The Titans continued their undefeated run with a dominant victory. Noah Kippley led the effort with 21 points, and Brayden Sumption chipped in 10.

T-D/A 45, K/WL 37

Isaac Wunder and Riley Spaans each scored 13 for tie winners. For Kimball/White Lake, Blake Leiferman secured 9 rebounds to go along with 8 points.

Warner 59, Hitchcock-Tulare 49

Warner finished off the sweep in Tulare with a combined 41 points from Hunter Cramer (23) and Brodey Sauerwein (18).

For the Patriots, Jackson Maynard hit 4 threes on his way to 17 points.

Wilmot 43, Britton-Hecla 40

Keitrick Genia lead a tough effort from the Wolves with 11 points in the victory. For the Braves, Ty Fagerland scored a game-high 20 points behind a trio of threes.
