This is our new series in which we provide you with a recap of South Dakota Sports from the day prior while you start your afternoon. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the stories.

It’s the Eve of Christmas Eve and the east side of SD is getting hit with a decent snow storm, so sit back and read some SD sports while your stuck inside.

Boys: De Smet Dominates!

C’mon Bulldogs, go easy on ’em. But seriously, how dominate of a victory is that?! De Smet took a 30-point lead into halftime and finished the game with a 47-17 victory over #5 DRSM. Kalen Garry walked the edge of a triple-double (23 pts./ 8 reb./ 7 asts.) and teammate Rett Othus finished with 15 & 9. If it weren’t for 3 rebounds, we would have seen two players finish with a double-double, which is not an easy task. So what does this mean for Boys Class B Basketball?

Well personally, I think the Bulldogs cemented their #1 spot. That doesn’t mean it can’t be taken away, but there is now no doubt they are the top team in the Class. It would take a huge loss to knock off the Bulldogs, or the other option is Platte-Geddes and Viborg-Hurley play out of their mind and leapfrog…Like I said De Smet is #1 and, that’s what I think it means for Class B, but if your DRSM, this all they have to say on the matter (I love this attitude btw!) :

Boys: Down Goes #1…Again

Well, after Brandon Valley’s great win over Yankton, S.F. Lincoln took down the #1 Lynx in a 73-70 battle. It was Lincoln’s first win of the year, and I really don’t know what to say or what should I say…But I think Washington will be the new #1 next week.

Who knows, what happens after that though, because Washington plays Lincoln on January 5th, so Lincoln might have the opportunity to knock off two #1 teams. You could also make the arguement for undefeated Harrisburg, but they have yet to play a ranked opponent, so I guess we have to give it time.

Girls: Harrisburg Stays Undefeated

Speaking of the school, Harrisburg’s Girls stayed undefeated with a 53-43 victory over Roosevelt, while Brecli Honner dropped 25 points! Harrisburg is legit this season, and while O’Gorman may give them a run for their money, if Honner and the Tigers have anything to stay about it, that title might end up in the suburbs this season.

Thoughts on New Boys Class AA Rankings + Yankton & O’Gorman Game

I was really surprised that Yankton was the #4 rank in the latest rankings, as I think they are a little better than people realize. And now that basically everyone has a loss, I wouldn’t be surprised if they have an argument for one of the top spots in the Class. Then again, Ben Renshaw of O’Gorman went big time in the third quarter of what should have been a run-away game for the Bucks, and Yankton nearly suffered their second loss in a week. If anything, this week has proved one thing…Class AA is A LOT more competitive than once thought.

Coy Determan get’s 1,000th Point

We need to give a shoutout to Determan for scoring his 1,000th point for Gregory. It’s a great accomplishment, and if anyone else does it this season, please give us a shoutout, as we would love to mention it in the blog.

Congrats Coy!

Final Thoughts: Sully Buttes Coach Mark Senftner

If you didn’t hear, Coach Senftner is stepping down due to health concerns. My prayers go out to him and his family during this Christmas season. He has been in the game for 35+ years, and I hope that everything goes well and he recovers fully and healthy.

As always support your community, and enjoy your Christmas. I am going to step away from social media and technology for a couple days while I enjoy my time with my family. Merry Christmas!

As always, we do are best to include what we can, but we can’t include everybody. We enjoy the support you bring, and next week we will be adding more analysis and recap on SD Sports!
