This is our new series in which we provide you with a recap of South Dakota Sports from the day prior while you start your afternoon. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the stories.
New week, new stories! Excited to write this one so let’s do it!!!!!!!!
Connor Libis 3-point record and DRSM’s dominate win
Connor Libis is well on his way to becoming one of the most prolific scorers in South Dakota Hoops history. He has moved to #3 on the all-time 3-pointers list with 302, trailing Gus Reede of Aberdeen Roncalli (322) and Louie Krogmann of White River (388). Oh ya, and did I mention he did this in a DOMINATE 83-25 victory over Colman-Egan. Let me say that again…83-25! DRSM looks to be on the move again and winning the DVC Tournament would be big for the Cardinals.
Boys: Is Mitchell slept on?! Part 2
Did you see that Mitchell-Brandon Valley score? The Kernels picked up a big 70-47 victory over the Lynx that shows Mitchell is one of the top teams in the state. I said it before in an earlier blog, but the Kernels have the best height in the state, and Brandon Valley does not. That is why the Lynx were able to beat Yankton earlier this season, Yankton doesn’t have a true post, and neither do the Lynx. The Lynx matched up well against Yankton, but they will need to figure out a new strategy if they want to take down Mitchell in the postseason.
I’m very excited to see where the staff puts Mitchell as well as where the media ranks them. The SFC loss was tough, but the BV win was a huge rebound for the Kernels. Their schedule should be fairly easy for a top ranked team until Mitchell travels to Roosevelt on February 11th. I suspect the Kernels go into that game with a record as good as 13-1.
Girls: Aberdeen Central vs Watertown
For how solid Aberdeen Central is, this has got to be one of the lowest scores I have seen in a while. The Golden Eagles took down Watertown by a just 39 points, while holding the Arrows to 18. Nothing else to say on this game, just that it was a low score. Golden Eagles have a big game against Tea Area on Friday, so hopefully the scoring returns.
Girls: Brandon Valley takes down Harrisburg
Brandon Valley took down undefeated Harrisburg on the road in a huge win for the Lynx. The 56-48 victory tells me that Class AA is anyone’s title to go get, as most of the teams have lost to each other at least once. (Aberdeen Central is the lone undefeated team in Class AA.)
Brandon Valley, O’Gorman, Washington and Harrisburg are definitely all good enough to win the title, but don’t sleep on Mitchell or Aberdeen Central. 6 teams have a serious chance of playing in that championship, and I’m sure there is more that would like to give one of these teams a run for their money. (See: Huron or RC Stevens). Class AA should continue to be exciting!
