Dell Rapids 11, Beresford 1 (5 IN.)
SIOUX CENTER, IA- In the first sanctioned softball game in state history, the Lady Quarriers jumped out to a quick lead and held on for a dominant 11-1 victory.
Lexi Ingalls got the game started with a 5-pitch walk, and scored the first run on a wild pitch two batters later. Kylie Lebahn then added on to lead with a RBI Triple and scored a run of her own later in the inning. Dell Rapids continued to add up the runs with 4 more in the second inning, and a pair of runs each in the 4th and 5th.
That was all that was needed for starter Katie Kvigne, who punched out 7 batters in 4 innings of work, giving up just 3 baserunners. Kvigne also had a great day at the plate, finishing 2-2 with 3 RBIs, including a home run in the 4th. Teammate Katie Scherff also went 2-2 with a home run, hitting her first dinger of the season in the 5th, to wrap up a great start for the Lady Quarriers.
For Beresford, Keely Merrigan went 3-3 on the day with 2 doubles.
RC Central 9, Pierre 4
PIERRE- The Cobblers of Rapid City Central went on the road to the state capital and took home a solid 9-4 victory.
The bats were alive for both teams in this contest as the Cobblers and Governors put together a combined 25 hits.
Holly Jacobs lead the way for Central with a 4-4 performance, while teammate Shyanne Dudley went 3-3 with a walk and triple. Third baseman Raylee Jones also blasted a home run in the 5th inning for the Cobblers, and Keera Taylor smashed two doubles on her way to three hits.
For the Governors, Elly Broers put together a 3-3 day with a walk and a double, while Noel Kist reached first base three times on a pair of hits and a walk.
