Quarriers Focused on Winning the Day Presented By The Move Group

Win the day.

That’s the mentality that Dell Rapids Head Coach Jordan Huska and his top-ranked band of Quarriers focus on bringing to the field every practice and game.

“We want to show up and win football games and we know there is a process to it and we just try to attack each day and win each day. This group is pretty focused,” said Coach Huska.

“I think the way that we are, we’re fully aware that a ranking doesn’t win anything. Our guys play baseball, basketball and track. They’ve won and they’ve lost big games. And they are fully aware that they have to show up each week and compete in the day-to-day as well.

“We want to show up and win football games and we know there is a process to it and we just try to attack each day and win each day.”

That day-to-day attack has been helped by facility upgrades at Dell Rapids, including a turf field that was installed in 2022.

“The new turf has been great day-to-day. The turf has been really nice for practicing on a consistent surface. We also got a new press box put in and now it’s all coming together with a very nice facility. And it’s fun for our kids and the community to have those things.”

Already, the Quarriers are beginning to see their relentless pursuit of daily victories take shape in the games, as Dell Rapids defended their home turf with a resounding 44-13 victory over Madison.

“Our kids came out and played well. They played hard. Obviously any week one game, there are things that you can improve on and get better with but I thought those things starting out were pretty good.”

The Quarriers featured an impressive backfield in game one, led by quarterback and South Dakota State commit Jack Henry (108 yds, 1 passing TD), to go along running back duo Mason Stubbe (174 yds, 3 TD) and Cole Ruesink (126 yds, 2 rush. TD, 1 rec. TD).

And no good rushing game can be completed with a stout offensive line, which Coach Huska believes can continue to improve on their excellent performance from the first week.

“Our guys up front are going to be huge for us. [They] compete and get better each week. We have some pieces in the backfield but any year you need your offensive line to control things.

And the way we play with running the football, that is the most important piece for us and we need to play well.”

Now, the Quarriers will gear up for a tough stretch of games against Belle Fourche, Hot Springs and #3 Canton. But even with the difficult road ahead, Coach Huska and his squad are going to focus on winning each day.

And today, that’s a game with the Belle Fourche Broncs.

“It’s really not something we worry about,” said Coach Huska of the upcoming schedule. “We are not looking past Belle Fourche. We are trying to get ready for Friday night and be better than we were yesterday. Right now we are focused on the game with Belle Fourche.

“They have some good pieces. We’ve played them several times over the past two years and I know they have given us good games.”

Tonight’s game will begin at 6:00 P.M. in Dell Rapids and can be seen on Big Sioux Media on Youtube.
