SD Baseball Recap (5/5): Puetz Has Big Day

Sioux Valley 19, Castlewood/Deuel 0 (5 IN.)

Parker Puetz complete a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts, and the Cossacks exploded for 14 hits in the win. Puetz had a pair of doubles among 4 hits with 7 RBIs and Jakob Ziegler hit a 3-run dinger.

Damian Danzeise, Carson Christerson and Layson Lucas also had 2 hits for the winners. For Castlewood, Cooper Goehring and Gunner Schultz had a pair of hits.

Parkston 5, Menno/Scotland 1

Kaleb Weber went 7 innings for the Trojans, striking out 5 with 2 hits in the win. Ty Neugebauer was the top bat for the victors, going 1-3 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.

For Menno/Scotland, Tyrus Bietz drew 2 walks and stole a pair of bases with a hit. Bietz also scored the Trappers lone run.

Brookings 7, Huron 2

The Tigers outhit Brookings, but Huron finished with 6 errors in the loss.

Breck Hirrschoff threw 6 innings in the victory, scattering 7 hits. Meanwhile Payton Theodosopoulos produced 2 doubles and Talon Richter drove in 2 runs on 2 hits.

For Huron, Dawsyn Rogers went 3-4 and Jonathan Peterson had 2 hits.

Brookings 13, Huron 2

Brookings took the lead with a 4-run 6th inning, and scored 8 more in the 7th to secure the victory. Sam Hardin drove in 3 runs on 2 hits, and teammate Ashton Witte produced 2 hits in the win. On the mound, Austin Clark threw a complete game.

Lennox 10, SFC 0 (6 IN.)

The Orioles broke the game open with 7 runs in the 6th inning. Conner Eich got the win, striking out 8 with 2 hits and a walk in a complete game effort. At the plate, Isaac Bambas lead with 2 hits for Lennox.

Chester/Colman-Egan/Flandreau 11, Garretson 6

A 5-run 3rd inning gave C/C-E/F the lead, and another 4 runs in the 6th secured the victory. For the winners, Tash Lunday went 3-4 with a trio of runs scored, and Tanner Christenson hit 2 doubles among 3 hits.

For Garretson, Carson Clark and Dylan Kindt had 2 hits and 2 runs each in the loss.

Tea Area 8, H-B-E 0

Nathan Babb (4 IN.) and Eric Munson (3 IN.) combined to get the victory on the mound. At the plate, Logan Boon scored twice with a double, and Babb went 2-2 at the plate.

In the loss, Jackson Jarding had 2 hits in the leadoff spot.

MVPCS 2, McCook 0

Tyson Wentland scattered 5 walks and 4 hits in 6.1 innings of work to earn the win. At the plate, Blaine Bohr went 2-3 with a walk for the Padres. As for McCook, Weston Remmers lead with 2 hits.

West Central 11, Baltic 2

The Trojans capitalized on 8 errors to push across 11 runs. Grafton Stroup lead the way with a trio of runs scored, and Zach Madsen hit a home run. West Central had 9 hits in the win, including 2 each from Duece Sherrard and Jack Linneman.

Pierre 8, Stevens 4

A bases-loaded double from Jayden Wiebe broke the game open for the Governors in the bottom of the 5th. Also in the win, George Stalley went 2-3 with 2 RBIs and a triple. For Stevens, Kade Walker scored twice on 2 hits and Luke Jegeris went 2-3.

Groton Area 16, Hamlin Area 0 (5 IN.)

Groton Area dominated from the start, taking a 10-0 lead after 2 innings. Jordan Bjerke threw a complete game as well, striking out 9, while knocking in 4 runs on 3 hits. Bjerke, Carter Simon and Dillon Abeln all had 3 runs in the win.

Belle Fourche 27, Lead-Deadwood 5 (6 IN.)

Belle Fourche produced 13 runs in the 1st inning, and continued to knock in runs. Nolan Wahlfedt and Evan Vissia both hit home runs for the Broncs. Wahlfedt had 5 RBIs with a double, while Sean Wahfledt scored 3 times on 2 hits.
