South Dakota Baseball Recap (4/16): Cole Throws No-Hitter, Stevens Walks-Off

Joey Cole threw a no-hitter, striking out 12 while walking 4. Teammate Aiden Barfuss added 4 r.b.i., 2 hits with 2 runs scored, and Aaron Gilchrist had 2 hits and 2 r.b.i.


Stevens 8, Central 7

In the rivalry game, Hayden Bentz hit a walk-off single to lift Stevens to victory. Matthew Moyes also had 3 hits for Stevens, and Colton Nesland scored twice with 3 hits.

For Central, both Aiden Mason and Riley Palmer had 2 hits, while Palmer scored twice.


Harrisburg 9, Mitchell 1

Harrisburg had just 3 hits in the victory, but drew 8 walks in the win. Chase Lucas and Tate Kogel scored 2 runs, and Will Simmons had 7 strikeouts and 2 hits in 4.2 innings.

Nick Lord scored the lone run for Mitchell, while Jace Larson gave up 1 hit in 4 innings of relief.


Tea 10, Tri-Valley 0

Clayton Schwerbach and Trey Pearson combined for 7 strikeouts in the 5 inning victory for Tea. Nathan Babb also had 2 hits with 2 runs scored for Tea and teammate Logan Boom had 2 r.b.i. and 1 hit.

For Tri-Valley, Logan Colwill had 2 hits and Cole Foken drew 2 walks.


Brookings 7, O’Gorman 6

Down by 2 runs in the 7th, Jake Ammann had a sacrifice walk, and Jackson Krogman scored on a catcher’s error to earn the victory.

Korgman scored 3 runs in the victory and Cole Mathlum had 2 hits. Teammate Charlie Holm also had 2 hits and threw 2 innings of no-hit baseball for the victory.

For O’Gorman, Jacob Schwab had 2 r.b.i while Cade Calmus added 2 runs and 2 hits.

Brookings 15, O’Gorman 4

Henry Hammrich had 4 r.b.i. for the Bobcats and Jackson Krogman had 3 r.b.i. For O’Gorman, Jacob Schwab had 2 hits.


Elk Point-Jefferson 8, Beresford 6

Kolby Scheifen and Kaleb Bickett had 2 hits in the victory, while Bickett added 2 r.b.i. Scheifen was the top pitcher for the Huskies, throwing 1 inning with a hit and a walk.


Roosevelt 7, Brandon Valley 2

Kyler Miritello struck out 6 in 4 innings for Roosevelt. Ben Irsfeld had a hit and drew 2 walks. Marcus Phillips and Camden Gadbois each had 2 hits.


Lincoln 16, Fargo Davies (ND) 8

The Patriots had 15 hits in the victory, highlighted by 3 hits from Ryne Hammerstrom and Peyton Hughes. Jackson Boe also had 5 r.b.i. for Lincoln, and struck out 4 in 1.2 innings.

Lincoln 8, Fargo Davies 7

Ethan Behrend threw 10 strikeouts in 5 innings of relief to lead Lincoln to the victory. Payton Hughes also had 2 hits and 2 r.b.i. while both Ryne Hammerstrom and Jackson Boe had 2 hits each.


Sioux Valley 10, Elkton 1

Parker Puetz had 11 strikeouts to lead Sioux Valley to victory. The Cossacks also had Damien Danziesen get 2 hits, and Carson Christopherson get 2 hits while adding 2 r.b.i.

For Elkton, Logan Kuehl had 1 r.b.i. with 1 hit.


Lennox 13, Flandreau 2

Brandon Fodness had 2 hits in the victory, and Braxton Musser threw 3 innings of 1 hit baseball. Brandon Otte finished the game with 2 hits in 3 innings on the mound, and Kolby Peters scored once for Flandreau with 1 hit.


Mitchell 9, Douglas 1

Peyton Schroeder threw a 2-hitter in the complete game victory, striking out 7. Jonah Schmidt had 2 hits and 2 r.b.i. for Mitchell, and Grady Olson scored the lone run with 1 hit for Douglas.

Mitchell 12, Douglas 2

Seth Muth had 4 hits while scoring twice in the Mitchell victory. Dylan Soulek also drew 3 walks for the Kernels and scored 2 runs. Mitchell threw another 2-hitter, with Douglas’ Noah Usera having both hits in the loss.


Parkston 6, Platte/Geddes/Dakota Christian/White Lake/Corsica 4

Max Scott threw 11 strikeouts in 5 innings for Parkston, with Kade Bialas striking out 4 in 2 innings of relief. Scott also had 2 hits, while P/G/DC/WL/C’s Jaylen Kemp had 2 hits and 2 runs. Also in the loss, Kelby VanDerWerff had 2 hits and an r.b.i.


Brandon Valley 4, Roosevelt 0

Joe Kolbeck scored 15 strikeouts in a 7-inning shutout, giving up just 2 hits and 3 walks.

Dylan Howard also threw 6 innings with 8 strikeouts and 0 earned runs in the loss, and Jamie Legg had both hits in the loss.
