South Dakota Baseball Recap (4/21): Simmons Throws 18 Strikeouts In No-Hitter

Harrisburg 2, O’Gorman 0

In the pitching performance of the season, Will Simmons threw 18 strikeouts in the complete game no-hitter against O’Gorman, and walked just two batters. Both walks were in the 1st inning, and after the 2nd walk, Simmons struck out the next 8 straight batters.

Teammate Ben Loos had 2 hits in the victory, including a triple, and Joe Sutton had an r.b.i. double to left field to score the winning run. For O’Gorman, Reece Arbogast struck out 7 and gave up 3 hits with 3 walks in 6 innings.


Washington 3, Brandon Valley 2

Garren Heinert hit the walk-off single to give Washington the victory. It was Heinert’s only at-bat of the day, while teammate Tyer Boyum drew 3 walks. Cael Swanson also had the win on the mound, giving up 2 hits in 2 innings of work.

For Brandon Valley, Peyton Carroll had 2 hits and Matt Brown pitched 3 innings with 7 strikeouts and 5 walks.


Lincoln 8, Yankton 2

Dalton Garbers and Chase Houselog both hit home runs in the road victory for the Patriots, and Payton Hughes was 2-3 with a triple and a run scored.

Ryne Hammerstrom gave up 7 hits in the complete game victory, and Yankton’s Dylan Prouty had 2 hits in the loss.


Pierre 9, Huron 5

In the snowy and cold doubleheader, Pierre walked away with both wins. In the first game, Maguire Raske had 3 hits, as well as Spencer Letellier, who also tripled.

Teammate Lincoln Kienholz scored twice on 2 walks, while Matthew Hanson had the relief win, throwing 4 strikeouts in 4 innings. For Huron, Elliot Devries had the lone hit.

Pierre 4, Huron 1

Andy Gordon was 3-4 with a double in the Pierre victory, while Jacob Meyer and Brecken Kreger each had 2 hits. On the mound, Brady Getz had 7 strikeouts with 4 hits in 5 innings, while Elliot Devries had the complete game loss for Huron.


Roosevelt 11, Mitchell 1

Jamie Legg went 4-4, batted in 3 runs, and had a double for Roosevelt in the victory. Mitchell Willis and Ben Irsfeld also had 2 hits, and Irseld had 10 strikeouts and gave up 2 hits on the mound in 5 innings.

For Mitchell, Joe VanOverschelde was the top hitter with 2 hits in the loss.
