South Dakota Baseball Recap (4/27): Bruns and VanDerWerff Throw Shutouts, Henry Hits 2 Home Runs

Dakota Valley 1, Vermillion 0

Paul Bruns threw 14 strikeouts and gave up 2 walks with a hit in the complete game victory. Bruns also went 2-2 with a walk and an r.b.i., and Jackson Strawn scored the only run.

PGDCWLCS 7, Winner/Colome 0

Kelby VanDerWerff gave up 7 hits and 2 walks while striking out 11 in the complete game shutout. Kane Knudson was 2-2 with a double and 2 r.b.i. in the victory. For Winner/Colome, Charley Pravecek had 2 hits.

Dell Rapids 5, Yankton 3

Austin Henry hit 2 home runs and threw 4.0 innings for Dell Rapids, striking out 9 with 2 hits and 3 walks.

Treyse Eastman was also 3-3 with 2 r.b.i. for Dell Rapids, and Kaden Luellman had 2 r.b.i. for Yankton.

Yankton 12, Dell Rapids 8

5 pitchers threw to earn the victory for Yankton, while Drew Ryken scored twice with 2 hits. Teammate Joe Gokie also was 2-2 with 3 r.b.i. and Kaden Luellman scored twice. The Bucks scored 9 runs in the top of the 7th inning.

For Dell Rapids, Brayden Pankone was 3-4 with 2 r.b.i., and Jack Henry hit 2 doubles. Treyse Eastman also had 3 r.b.i. in the loss.

Brookings 11, Washington 0

Lincoln Hardin gave up 3 walks and 2 hits with 5 strikeouts in 5 innings for Brookings. Cole Mahlum went 2-3 with 2 doubles and Jamison Honkomp had 4 r.b.i. in the victory.

For Washington, Dylan Rippentrop had 2 hits.

Washington 7, Brookings 6

Washington scored 3 runs in the 7th inning, and Andrew Glovich went 2-3 with a double in the victory. Aiden Beck was also 2-4 with 2 r.b.i. and 2 runs scored, and Myles Rees was walked twice.

For Brookings, Jackson Krogman was 2-3 with 3 r.b.i., and Henry Hammrich walked twice and scored twice. Also for Brookings, Jamison Honkomp hit a triple.

Roosevelt 5, Huron 2

Mitchell Willis threw 6 innings, striking out 7 with 2 walks and 3 hits to lead Roosevelt in the victory. Dylan Ades also was 1-1 with 2 walks and a run.

For Huron, Dawsyn Rodgers had 2 hits.

Roosevelt 9, Huron 1

Teagan Pfitzer was 1-2 with a walk and Dawsyn Rodgers had 2 hits in the loss for Huron.

Baltic 8, Sioux Falls Christian 7

Baltic scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th to earn the victory. Hunter Larson went 2-3 with 3 runs scored and Tayden Hansen was 3-3 with 2 r.b.i.

For SFC, Ben Weeldreyer was 2-4 with an r.b.i., and teammate Andrew Dykstra had 2 hits in the loss.

O’Gorman 4, Brandon Valley 2

Sam Stukel threw 14 strikeouts with 5 hits and 1 walk in the complete game victory for O’Gorman.

Nate Sprenkle went 3-4 with double to help lead the Knights to victory, and Jacob Schwab had 2 r.b.i. and a scored a run. For Brandon Valley, Joe Kolbeck was 2-3 with a double and a home run.

Brandon Valley 14, O’Gorman 6

Joe Kolbeck batted in 4 runs with a double and a home run in the victory. Nick Hokenstad also went 3-5 with 3 runs, while Sam Olthoff scored 3 times.

For O’Gorman, Reece Arbogast hit a grand slam, and Jacob Schwab was 2-4 with a run scored.

Beresford 4, Bon Homme 3

Zach Boden hit an r.b.i. single in the top of the 6th to help earn the victory for Beresford. Boden and teammate Jake Goblirsch both went 2-3 with a double, while Kolby Scheifen was 2-4 with a double.

Sturgis 9, Rapid City Central 3

Ridge Inhofer struck out 12 and walked 5 with 2 hits in 4.2 innings for Sturgis in the win. Inhofer was also 2-2 with 2 r.b.i. and 2 runs scored, while David Anderson scored 3 times. Teammate Kelton Olson scored twice with 2 walks and Brodee Matthews walked twice for Central.
