South Dakota Baseball Weekend Recap (4/11): Schelske Strikes Out 16 In No-Hitter, Fodness Hits Walk-Off Home Run

W/WS/SC 7, Castlewood 0

Mason Schelske struck out 16 while walking just 2 batters in a complete game no-hitter.

Teammate Quinten Christensen had 3 r.b.i. and 2 hits, while Cooper Hainey had 2 hits and scored 2 runs.

FEATURED GAME: APRIL 11th

Lennox 8, Tea Area 6

Brandon Fodness hit a walk-off home run to give the Orioles the victory.

Peyton Eich had 2 hits and 3 r.b.i. for Lennox, while Conner Eich won the game in relief. For Tea Area, Gabe Glanzer and Cam Jensen had 2 hits.


APRIL 9th

Baltic 13, Chester/Colman-Egan/Flandreau 1

In the Bulldogs victory, Hunter Larson had 3 hits and Easton Nordbye had 5 r.b.i. Riley Schultz had the win for Baltic, throwing 5 innings with 5 strikeouts and 4 hits.

O’Gorman 8, Fargo South (ND) 3

The Knights got the win against a tough North Dakota team. Reece Arbogast had the win for O’Gorman, striking out 8 while giving up just 2 hits in 5 innings.

Also forthe Knights, Andrew Barr had 2 hits and 2 r.b.i., while Andy Moen and Mason Bierema scored 2 runs each.

Gregory County 7, Winner/Colome 0

Sawyer Tiegen, Kade Braun, and Lincoln Juraceck combined for a 3-hit shutout against Winner/Colome on Friday. Tiegen also had 3 hits and 2 runs scored, while Rylan Peck had 3 r.b.i. along with 3 hits.

Harrisburg 1, Fargo South (ND) 0

Sam Rabern, Tate Kogel and Taylor Klein combined for the no-hitter on Friday. Kogel threw 3 innings with 8 strikeouts and 2 walks, while Klein had the win with 2 strikeouts and a walk in 2 innings. Rabern started the game, and threw 2 innings with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks.

Kogel also scored the winning run on a walk-off single from Ben Loos.

Harrisburg 18, Fargo South (ND) 0

Will Simmons gained the victory, throwing 6 strikeouts in 3 innings while giving up just 1 hit and 1 walk. Jack Sutton, Ben Loos and Taylor Klein all had 4 runs in the victory.

Fargo Sheyenne (ND) 7, Brandon Valley 2

Brandon Valley had 4 hits in the loss. Peyton Carroll had 2 hits, while Logan Kelling walked twice.

Vermillion 10, Scotland/Menno 0

Ben Burbach and Willis Robertson combined for the 1-hit shutout on Friday for Vermillion. Burbach started the game, throwing 3 innings with 2 strikeouts, 1 walk and 1 hit. Robertson threw 2 innings with 2 strikeouts.

Also for Vermillion, Jack Kratz and Jake Jensen had 2 hits. For Scotland/Menno, Dawson Bietz had the lone hit, while Jacob Schnott had a walk.

Washington 16, Dell Rapids 0

Tyler Boyum threw a no-hitter against Dell Rapids. Boyum had 7 strikeouts in 3 innings, giving up just one baserunner on an error. Garren Heinert had 4 r.b.i and 2 hits while scoring 3 runs, Boyum and Myles Rees scored 3 runs.

Lincoln 9, Dell Rapids 3

Dalton Garbers had 2 hits, while Payton Hughes was walked twice. Jamison Vetter had the win for Patriots, giving up 4 hits and 2 earned runs with 2 strikeouts in 3 innings.

In the loss, Austin Henry threw 12 strikeouts, but gave up 6 walks and 4 hits. Kaeden Eastman also had 2 walks and a hit for Dell Rapids.

Wagner 8, Beresford 1

Nolan Carda had 10 strikeouts in 4 innings for Wagner, giving up just 3 hits. Carda also hit a home run along with 4 r.b.i. while Dustin Honomichl had 3 r.b.i.

Winner/Colome 15, Gregory County 0

Aaron Gilchrist had 4 hits, while Aiden Barfuss had 2 runs and 2 hits. Also in the win, Evan Farner had 4 strikeouts in 4 innings along with 2 hits.

For Gregory County, Rylan Peck and Kade Braun had 1 hit each.

Madison 7, Redfield 4

Aspen Dahl threw 5 innings and had 6 strikeouts and 3 hits in the victory. Ashton Nills also had 2 hits, while Osborn had 3 hits for Redfield.

Roosevelt 6, Fargo North (ND) 0

Camden Gadbois, Kyler Miritello, and Marcus Phillips threw a 2-hit shutout, and combined for 15 strikeouts in the Roosevelt victory. Ben Irsfeld also had 2 hits, while Dylan Ades had 2 hits with 2 r.b.i.


APRIL 10th

Shanley (ND) 7, O’Gorman 4

Nate Sprenkle had 2 hits while Andrew Barr had 3 r.b.i. in the loss. Leo Hueners also had 3 hits for O’Gorman.

Harrisburg 7, Fargo Sheyenne (ND) 6

Ben Loos and Sam Rabern drew back-to-back walks to gain the walk-off victory for Harrisburg. Tyman Long also had 2 hits and 2 r.b.i. with 1 run while Loos had 3 walks for Harrisburg.

Kai Yungbluth had 9 strikeouts in 4 innings while Lucas Crichton had the relief victory with 5 strikeouts and 4 hits in 3 innings.

Harrisburg 14, West Fargo (ND) 2

Tyson Kogel had 2 hits and 4 r.b.i. with 2 runs scored in the victory for Harrisburg. Teammate Stewart Nickel had 3 runs while Chase Lucas won the game with 6 strikeouts in 4 innings.

West Fargo (ND) 12, Brandon Valley 1

Joe Kolbeck scored 1 run and had 1 hit, while Luke Kocer and Tyler Schelske had one hit each in the loss.

Brandon Valley 18, Fargo South (ND) 7

Nate Meyers had 6 r.b.i. and 2 hits in the victory for Brandon Valley. Noah Bertsch also finished with 2 hits and 3 runs for the Lynx, while Sam Olthoff scored 2 runs and had 2 r.b.i.

Peyton Carroll won the game for the Lynx, throwing 2 innings with 2 walks and 1 hit along with 1 strikeout.

Charlie Mickelson threw a 4-inning no-hitter for Lincoln, striking out 5.

Grant Garber had 3 r.b.i. along with 2 runs scored, while Ethan Behrend scored 3 runs with 2 hits.

Rapid City Central 14, Douglas 3

Kayden Jones had 3 hits and scored 3 runs for Central and had the victory with 7 strikeouts in 5 innings while giving up just 3 hits. Also for Central, Karter Uttecht scored 2 runs and had a triple and Aiden Mason also had 2 hits along with 2 r.b.i.

Yankton 8, Huron 7

Connor Teichrow had the sacrifice fly to tie the game, and Garrett Nelson singled to right field for the walk-off victory.

Dylan Prouty had 2 hits in the victory, while Samuel Kampshoff had 2 hits and 3 r.b.i. with 2 runs scored. Kampshoff had 10 strikeouts in 4.1 innings and teammate Joe Gokie had the win while scoring 3 runs in the win.

Yankton 9, Huron 1

Connor Teichrow, Dylan Prouty and Drew Ryken had 2 hits each for Yankton, while Samuel Kampshoff and Ryken also had 2 r.b.i. Teammate Landon Loecker threw the complete game victory, giving up 5 hits while striking out 8.

For Huron, Elliot Devries had 2 hits.

Pierre 5, Mitchell 4

Maguire Raske had 3 r.b.i. while Spencer Letellier scored 2 runs for Pierre. In the loss, Jonah Schmidt had 2 hits while teammate Carson Fahey also had 2 hits with 2 r.b.i.

Mitchell 6, Pierre 0

Jake Helleloid threw 6 innings and gave up 3 hits and a walk for Mitchell. Parker Bollinger was the top hitter for the Kernels with 2 hits, 2 r.b.i. and 2 runs scored. For Pierre, Maguire Raske had 2 hits and Bennett Dean struck out 4 batters in 2 innings.

Fargo Sheyenne (ND) 6, Roosevelt 2

Billy Chatwell and Ben Irsfeld had 2 walks each, while teammate Dylan Howard had 7 strikeouts in the loss for Roosevelt.

Tea Area 8, McCook Central/Montrose 4

Trevor Welch scored 2 runs in the victory, and teammate Marcus Bolin had 2 r.b.i. with 2 hits. Welch also had the victory on the mound, throwing 3.1 innings with 6 strikeouts along with 1 hit and 1 walk.

In the loss, Braeden Kerkhove had 3 walks.

Dakota Valley 15, Scotland/Menno 5

Isaac Bruns had 3 hits while scoring 3 runs to go along with 3 r.b.i. in the victory. Teammate Jaxon Hennles also had 3 hits while Jake Pruchniak had 2 hits, 2 r.b.i., and 2 runs scored.

In the loss Austin Pillsbury, and Dawson Bietz had 2 hits each.

Fargo North (ND) 10, Washington 8

Tyler Boyum, Bryce Ronken and Aiden Beck all had 2 hits in the loss, while Gage Sharping threw 4 innings, striking out 8 but walked 7 batters.


APRIL 11th

Madison 12, Vermillion 11

Down by 6 runs in the 5th inning, Vermillion nearly gained the comeback, but Madison’s Lucas Mork had 2 strikeouts in the 7th inning to secure the win.

Aspen Dahl and Ty Jorgensen had 2 hits, 2 walks and 2 runs each in the victory for Madison. Dahl also had a home run, while Peyton Wolf threw 1.1 innings to get the victory. Jack Kratz had 3 hits for Vermillion.

Brookings 14, RC Stevens 4

Cole Mathium had 2 hits and 4 r.b.i. in the victory for Brookings, while Jackson Krogman and Payton Theodosapolus scored 3 runs each.

Matthew Moyes had 3 r.b.i. for RC Stevens in the loss, along with 2 hits.

Elk Point-Jefferson 3, Hanson-Aurora 2

Tyler Goehring had 10 strikeouts in 5.2 innings for the Huskies. Skyler Swatek had 2 hits and 2 runs, while teammate Andrew Nearman had 2 hits for Ellk Point-Jefferson.

Paul Bruns had 3 hits and 2 runs in the victory, while Jake Pruchniak struck out 10 in 5 innings for Dakota Valley.

Cole Manhlum had 4 hits and 3 r.b.i. in the victory, and teammate Jake Ammann had 5 r.b.i. and 3 hits, including a home run.

Eathen Bartels had 11 strikeouts in 4 innings, giving up just 1 hit in the victory.
