South Dakota Baseball Weekend Recap (4/25): Scotland/Menno Wins Program’s 1st Victory, Yungbluth Throws No-Hitter

April 23rd

M/HH/WW 5, Clark/Willow Lake 4

Two errors and a groundout gave M/HH/WW the winning run in the bottom of the 6th.

Landon Cleveland had 2 hits in the victory for M/HH/WW and Jordan Archambeau batted in 2 runs. In the loss, Jordan Bjerke had 2 hits and scored once, while teammate Alex Morris had 11 strikeouts in 6 innings.

Harrisburg 12, Huron 2

Kai Yungbluth threw a no-hitter for Harrisburg, striking out 12 while walking 4.

Jack Sutton also had 3 hits in the victory, and Sam Rabern hit 2 triples.

Harrisburg 11, Huron 1

Sam Rabern hit a home run with 3 r.b.i. and 2 walks to lead Harrisburg to victory, and teammate Jack Sutton had 4 r.b.i. with 2 hits.

Dakota Valley 14, Canton 2

Paul Bruns threw 4.2 innings and gave up just 1 hit with 8 strikeouts in the victory for Dakota Valley.

For the Panthers, Jaxon Hennies was 2-3 with 3 r.b.i. and Chayce Montagne was walked 3 times. In the loss, Matthew Anderson had 2 r.b.i. with 1 hit.

Pierre 2, Brookings 1

After 5 shutout innings, Cole Mablum had an r.b.i. single for Brookings and Jayden Wiebe had a 2 r.b.i. double in the bottom of the 6th inning to elevate Pierre to the victory.

For Pierre, Lincoln Kienholz had 10 strikeouts and gave up 3 hits with 2 walks in 6 innings while Henry Hammerich had 2 hits for Brookings.

Bennett Dean hit an r.b.i. single in the bottom of the 8th for the walk-off victory.

Aaron Boone (3.1 innings) and Bennett Dean (4.2 innings) held Brookings to no runs in the victory, and Lincoln Kienholz had 2 hits for Pierre.

Brandon Valley 9, Lennox 1

The Lynx gave up just 2 hits in the victory. Joe Kolbeck also had 4 r.b.i with 2 hits and 2 runs, and Austin Reiter had 2 hits for Brandon Valley.

Brandon Valley 11, Lennox 0

Nick Hokenstad (2.0 innings), Logan Kelling (2.0 innings), Peyton Carroll (1.0 inning), and Collin Simon (1.0 inning) threw a no-hitter Brandon Valley.

Tyler Schelske was 2-3 with 2 runs scored for the Lynx and teammate Trey Sejnoha had 2 hits with 2 walks.

Dell Rapids 7, Garretson 2

Brayden Pankonen was 2-4 with a double and scored 2 runs to lead to Dell Rapids to victory. Teammate Austin Henry had 2 hits and scored twice for Dell Rapids. For Garretson, Dylan Kindt was 1-1 with 2 walks.

Tea Area 16, Sioux Falls Christian 8

The two teams combined for 25 hits, and Noah Hart was 3-4 with a triple, a home run, 2 r.b.i., and scored 2 runs in the loss. Teammate Isaiah Mulder also scored twice with 2 hits.

For Tea, Cater McGregor was 4-4 with a home run and 4 runs scored. Trevor Welch was also 2-4 with a home run and 3 r.b.i.

Parkston/Ethan/Tripp 8, Beresford 7

Jay Storm hit a walk-off double to earn the victory for Parkston/Ethan/Tripp. Teammate Isaak Bialas was also 2-4 with double and an r.b.i., while Kaleb Bickett scored twice with 2 r.b.i. for Beresford.

PGDCWLCS 21, Chamberlain/Kimball/Lyman 11

The two teams combined for 32 runs on just 15 hits in the game. Aiden Bultje was 1-3 with 3 runs scored and 4 r.b.i. for PGDCWLCS, and Nate Whalen was 1-2 with 3 walks.

For Chamberlain/Kimball/Lyman, Hudson Heath walked 4 times and Dakota Munger was 2-4 with a triple and 3 runs scored. Teammate Cam Caldwell also had 6 r.b.i. with a grand slam home run.


April 24

Vermillion 15, Hanson 1

Ben Burbach (3.0 innings) and Jack Kratz (2.0 innings) threw a 1-hitter in the victory. Kratz was also 2-3 with 3 r.b.i. and TJ Tracy scored 3 times.

O’Gorman 10, Rapid City Stevens 0

Harry Hueners struck out 10 and gave up just 3 hits with 1 walk in 6 innings for O’Gorman. Trey Heckenlaible batted in 2 runs with 2 hits in the victory. Teammate Sam Stukel also had 2 r.b.i., while Leo Hueners was 2-2 with 3 runs scored.

TJ Free threw the complete game shutout, giving up 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3.

Cade Calmus was 2-4 with 2 doubles for the Knights, and Graham Sanders scored twice with 2 walks.

McCook 12, Baltic 9

Jackson Remmers batted in 6 runs and had a double to lead McCook to the victory. Trevor Hansen also went 2-3 with 3 runs scored, and Joe Loudenburg walked twice and scored 3 times.

For Baltic, Gunner Schultz was 2-4 with a double and 2 r.b.i., and Matt Muston scored 3 times.

Beau Breece had 1 hit and 1 walk in the loss.

Mitchell 16, Rapid City Central 5

Seth Muth was 2-4 with 2 runs scored, and teammate Jake Helleloid scored 3 times with 2 hits and 2 r.b.i. while Mason Geraerts batted in 3 runs on 2 hits with 2 runs scored.

Mitchell 17, Rapid City Central 1 (5 in.)

Jonah Schmidt had 4 r.b.i. and a triple with 3 runs scored in the victory for the Kernels. Brock Sparks was also 2-3 with 2 runs scored, and Jace Larson had 4 r.b.i.

On the mound, Peyton Schroder threw the complete game, striking out 3 with 6 hits. For Central, Kayden Jones had 2 hits.

April 25th

Mitchell 10, Rapid City Stevens 1

Jonah Schmidt struck out 7 and gave up just 1 hit in 5.1 innings for Mitchell. Joe VanOverschelde was 3-5 with 4 r.b.i. in the Kernels’ victory, and Jake Helleloid had 3 hits and scored twice.

Colton Nesland had 2 hits and scored the only run in the loss.

Mitchell 15, Rapid City Stevens 5

The Kernels were lead by Tate Ellwein, who was 2-3 with 3 runs scored. Jonah Schmidt also had 3 r.b.i., and Riley McGinnis was 2-2 with 2 runs batted in.

Connor Knudsen tripled and Joseph Hill scored once with 1 r.b.i. in the loss.

Gregory County 10, Lead-Deadwood 0 (5 in.)

Trey Murry struck out 11 and gave up just 1 hit in the complete game victory for Gregory County.

Rhoss Oliver also hit a triple for Gregory County and Gannon Thomas scored twice with 2 r.b.i.

Dakota Valley 9, Lennox 2

Jake Pruchniak earned the victory for Dakota Valley, striking out 11 with 5 walks and 3 hits in 5.2 innings. Hunter Beving also scored twice with a double and 2 walks for the Panthers, while Paul Bruns scored twice.

For Lennox, Peyton Eich was 2-3 with a double and Ty Spiedler was walked twice.

Scotland/Menno 6, Parkston/Ethan/Tripp 5

Treyton Sayler hit a walk-off double for Scotland/Menno to earn the victory.

Austin Pillsbury also had 3 r.b.i. for the Trappers, and Dawson Bietz scored 3 times. For Parkston/Ethan/Tripp, Isaak Biala was 2-3 with a run scored, and Ty Nevgebar had 2 hits.

Howard 9, W/WS/SC 6

Jace Sifore had 3 r.b.i. and 2 hits for the Tigers, and Riley Genzlinger scored 3 times with two walks. Teammate Jaxon Kampshoff also had 2 walks with 2 r.b.i.
