West Central Opens Season in Yankton, Morris dominates Wolves AA Invite

Yankton, South Dakota

9 schools from Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota competed in Day 1 of the Lancer High School Opener at the Ruth Donahoe First Dakota Fieldhouse, with the West Central Trojans being the lone South Dakota competitor.

The Trojans were lead by seniors Derek Eidness, Josh Livermore, and Alysia Hall. Eidness won the men’s high jump with a clearance of 6-04″, while Hall finished runner-up in the women’s shot put with a throw of 31-06.25″. Josh Livermore also finished runner-up in the men’s shot put, throwing 44-11.50″, and junior Braden Diericks was runner-up in long jump (17-05″).

In team event’s, the West Central Trojans women’s 4×400 team (Molli Thornton, Rylee Haldeman, Stormee Klien, Sadie Berg) finished 3rd with a time of 4:32.85a and the 4×800 team (Ellie McDonald, Jazelle Jarding, Reagan Stallman, Ryenn Caffrey) also finished in third place with a time of 11:44.28a).

Day 2 of the meet with feature teams from Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota, including Colman-Egan, Dell Rapids St. Mary, Gregory, Menno, Mt. Vernon/Plankinton, and Sioux Falls Lincoln.

Wolves AA Invite

Aberdeen, South Dakota

Four South Dakota AA schools competed at the Wolves AA Invite at the Barnett Center on Tuesday. Those teams include: Aberdeen Central, Mitchell, Pierre T.F. Riggs, and Watertown.

Myah Morris of Watertown dominated the meet, winning the 55m with a time of 7.63, and the long jump with a leap of 16-04.25″. Morris also won the Triple Jump with a leap of 35-03″, while teammate Victoria Smith won the 400m (1:10.05) and 800m (2:42.66).

For Pierre, Addison Cumbow won the 200m with a time of 29.50 and Jessica Lutmer swept the distance events, winning both the 1600m (5:49) and 3200m (12:55.08).

In the men’s events, Juven Hudson from Watertown won the 200m (24.62) and finished runner-up in the 55m. Hudson’s teammate Jesse Pietz won the 400m with a time of 57.34 and fellow Arrow Jaxson Fiechnter finished the 800m in 2:14.95, good for first place.

Aberdeen Central swept the relays, winning the 4×400, and 4×800, while Josh Martin won the 1600m (4:47.03).
