After making the state championship four straight years, one would have to think that the Winner Warriors have discovered some secret formula.
But Coach Trent Olson believes that it’s instead hard work, and working while you wait that has allowed the Warriors to dominant year in and year out.
“We have good kids, they love football. I think they really enjoy being together. One of the big things is our lineman. We always seem like we always have to replace our entire line every year, but that’s a good thing.
Tayden Mathis, Dalton Peterson, guys like that, that have worked hard and waited their turn. They’ve stepped up and been great senior leaders and having guys like that make a big difference.”
Winner run a legendary double wing formation that confuses opponents, and young Warriors know they are getting consistency and can develop their unique role in the offense.
“We’re not afraid to do things the same way, and that consistency has lead to success.”
And it’s easy to see the byproduct of all that factors that have made Winner great. They’ve won championships in ’15, ’16, ’20 and ’21, while taking a 34 game-winning streak into the Dome.
“They are all unique, every team. There is always that group of seniors that make it different. We graduate great senior classes year in and year out.“
Now the Warriors face an upstart Elk Point-Jefferson team, and look to hang one more banner on a legendary run.
