SD Baseball Weekend Recap (4/22-24): Niedringhaus Drives In 8 Runs On Saturday

FRIDAY, APRIL 22nd

Lincoln 13, Pierre 1 (5 IN.)

Sawyer Tolk went 3-3 with 3 RBIs in the victory for the Patriots, and teammate Chase Houselog scored 3 runs on 2 walks and a hit. Lincoln produced 12 hits in the game, including 2 more by Gavin Solomon and Charlie Mickelson each.

For Pierre, Matthew Hanson went 1-1 with a walk, while scoring the Governor’s only run.

Lincoln 10, Pierre 9

A 5th-run 4th inning helped Lincoln earn the sweep on Friday evening. Mickelson hit 2 triples for the victors, and Solomon drove in 4 runs on 2 doubles.

The Governors nearly completed a comeback in the last 2 innings, scoring 4 runs in the 6th, and 3 runs in 7th. Lincoln Kienholz had an excellent game for Pierre, going 3-3 with a walk and a HBP.

Tea Area 7, West Central 3

Logan Boom elevated the Titans to victory with a huge day, going 4-4 (2B, HR) while driving in 2 runs. The right fielder also scored 3 times in the victory. On the mound, Clayton Schwebach threw a complete game, striking out 12 while giving up 2 earned runs.

Dakota Valley 18, Menno/Scotland 7 (6 IN.)

The Panthers trailed 7-6 in the top of the 5th, when the Trappers had a 2-run error to give Dakota Valley the lead. The Panthers then continued to drive in runs, scoring 10 in the top of the sixth to earn the victory.

Jake Prunchinak and Ashton Pick each had 3 hits in the victory, while Tyler Schutte drove in 4 runs. Also for the Panthers, Brendan Barnett blasted a 2-run home run in the top of the 5th.

For the Trappers, Austin Pillsbury went 3-3 with 2 triples and a double, while teammate Tyrus Bietz knocked in 3 runs on 2 hits.

Vermillion 9, Baltic 7

Baltic nearly completed a comeback in the 7th inning, scoring 3 times before a bases-loaded flyout to Vermillion shortstop Jack Kratz ended the game. Kratz scored 3 runs in the game and Charlie Ward went 3-4 with 2 RBIs for the Tanagers.

Also for the victors, Willis Robertson and Reece Proefrock had 2 hits each.

For Baltic, Jose Valadez hit a solo home run, while Caleb Kittelson, Riley Dobbins and Matt Muston had 2 hits each.


SATURDAY, APRIL 23

O’Gorman 20, Douglas 0 (5 IN.)

O’Gorman turned 11 hits and 6 walks into 20 runs on Saturday afternoon, while Jake Wheeler nearly completed the no-hitter, giving up just 1 hit in the win.

Joe Neidringhaus had a big day at the plate, hitting 2 doubles and driving in 4 runs for the Knights. Teammate Wyatt Hermsen also went 2-2 with 3 runs and 3 RBIs, while Tristin VanWassenhove finished with 2 hits in the leadoff spot.

O’Gorman 15, Douglas 0 (5 IN.)

OG completed the sweep with a 15-0 shutout victory behind pitcher Loegen Lindner (1 H, 3 BB, 8 K). Neidringhaus again knocked in 4 runs on 2 hits, and DH Quinn Dunham went 2-3 with 2 RBIs.

Washington 24, Pierre 13 (5 IN.)

Washington used a 13-run 2nd inning to propel themselves to victory over Pierre. The Warriors had 17 hits in the victory, including 3 each from Jack Nesje, Bryce Ronken, and Cael Swanson. Swanson also hit a home run in the win, and Nesje drove in 5 runs.

For Pierre, Lincoln Kienholz scored 4 runs and hit a home run from the leadoff position. Teammate Grayson Hunsley went 3-4 with 4 RBIs.

Pierre 24, Washington 1 (5 IN.)

In a complete flip of the score, the Governors this time scored 24 runs on 17 hits. Cade Kaiser went 2-4 with a home run, and teammate Jett Zabel had 3 hits, 3 RBIs and reached home 4 times.

Also for the Governors, George Stalley drove in 5 runs on 4 hits, including 2 doubles, and DH Matthew Brewer touched home 4 times.

Redfield Area 4, Baltic 1

Muskrats pitcher Keaton Rohlfs gave up no earned runs in the victory, pitching a complete game. For Baltic, Gunner Schultz and Jose Valadez went 2-3, while Valadez was hit by a pitch.

Madison 10, Baltic 2

Peyton Wolf scored 2 runs on 1 hit for Madison, and Calvin Kelsey drew two walks while scoring twice. Madison had just 5 hits in the victory, but earned 7 walks from Baltic. On the mound, Lucas Mork went 4 innings, scattering 4 hits while striking out 3.

O-R/R 11, Hamlin 9

The Rebels of O-R/R came out as the victors in a tough back-and-forth game that saw 4 different lead changes. Kadyn Geherls had 3 hits in the leadoff spot for the Rebels, and Wyatt Bickett hit a triple.

For Hamlin, Carson Pedersen had 3 hits.


SUNDAY, APRIL 25th

Baltic 6, C/C-E/F 5

The Bulldogs took the lead with a 5-run 6th inning, and held on despite being outhit 9-4. After a 2-RBI single and driving in the tying run, Riley Schultz stole second, advance to 3rd on an error, and scored on a passed ball to give Baltic the lead. Schultz drove in 3 runs for the Baltic.

In the loss, Tash Lunday went 3-4 with 2 doubles and a triple.

Lennox 13, H-B-E 1 (5 IN.)

The Orioles used a 6-run 6th inning to elevate themselves to victory behind a complete game from Talen Eich.

Steven Christion hit a double among 3 hits and drove in 4 tuns, while teammate Carter VanHouten knocked 3 in on 2 hits.
