SD Baseball Weekend Recap (4/29-5/1): Pruchniak Throws 18-Strikeout Perfect Game

FRIDAY

Dakota Valley 5, Beresford Area 0

Jake Pruchniak had the most impressive pitching performance of the season, throwing a perfect game with 18 strikeouts.

Randy Rosenquist added some insurance, knocking in 3 runs on a double and a triple.

Tea Area 15, Sioux Falls Christian 5 (6 IN.)

The Titans exploded in the final 3 innings, scoring 11 runs. Nathan Babb was excellent at the plate, going 4-4. Teammate Clayton Schwebach pieced together 3 hits in the leadoff position and Logan Boom drove in a trio of runs.

For SFC, Harris Adamson went 2-3 with a run scored.

Brookings 11, Stevens 1 (6 IN.)

Jake Ammann cruised to victory on the mound, throwing a 1-hit complete game for Brookings. The Bobcats were also limited to 6 hits but Austin Clark and Justin Coffel both drew 2 walks.

Brookings 4, Stevens 3

After a HBP and an intentional walk, Brookings capitalized on an error to earn the sweep.

Charlie Holm hit the walk-off with 2 hits and a pair of runs. For Stevens, Gavan Williamson had a double and Kolten Moshier went 2-3.

Vermillion 12, Elk Point-Jefferson 2 (5 IN.)

The Tanagers bats were hot from the beginning, scoring 3 runs in the top of the first and then scoring in every inning until the 10 run rule.

Ben Burbach got the win on the mound, while driving in 2 runs on a pair of doubles at the plate. Also for the Tanagers, Jake Jensen had 2 hits and Jack Kratz scored a trio of runs on 2 hits.

For EP-J, Ben Swatek went 2-2 with a pair of runs.

Chester/Colman-Egan/Flandreau 8, McCook 6

Tanner Christenson hit a 2-run single in the top of the 7th to break the tie and secure the win for C/C-E/F. Christenson had a great day at the plate, finishing with 3 RBIs, 2 hits and 2 walks in the win.

McCook had 13 hits in the loss, including 3 from Jackson Grady. For C/C-E/F, Ethan Hoffman scored three times.

West Central 11, Lennox 7

The Trojans combined 14 hits and 4 walks to earn the win on Friday night. Caden Alfson produced 3 hits and 2 RBIs, and teammate Duece Sheraard went 3-5 with a trio of runs scored.

For Lennox, Talen Eich finished with 2 hits and Braedon Wulf scored a pair of runs.


SATURDAY

Sturgis 21, Douglas 1 (5 IN.)

The Scoopers bats were hot, producing 21 runs on 15 hits. Kelton Olson had 2 doubles among 3 hits, to go with 3 RBIs and 4 runs scored. Teammate Kain Peters scored 3 hits, while Dawson Inhofer drove in 4 runs on 2 hits.

For Douglas, David Mraz went 3-3 with in the leadoff position.

Sturgis 21, Douglas 3 (5 IN.)

Sturgis capitalized on 8 errors and a 10-run 5th inning to earn the win. Owen Cass hit 3 doubles in the win, and Connor Cruickshank went 3-5 with 3 runs. Also for the Scoopers, Dustin Alan scored 4 times off of 3 hits.


SUNDAY

Mitchell 10, Stevens 0 (6 IN.)

Jonah Schmidt completed the no-hitter, walking just 1 batter while strucking out 13 hitters.

At the plate, Schmidt went 2-4 with 2 RBIs and a pair of runs. Teammate Jake Helleloid also had an excellent day, driving in 4 runs on a trio of hits.

Mitchell 16, Stevens 1 (5 IN.)

Helleloid continued his excellent day on the mound, throwing 9 strikeouts with 2 hits in 4 innings. Helleloid hit a home run at the plate as well.

Teammates Seth Muth, Lincoln Bates and Brock Sparks had 2 hits for the Kernels.

Bon Homme 14, Elk Point-Jefferson (6 IN.)

The Cavaliers scored 6 runs in the 3rd inning to seal the victory behind the arm of Christian Uecker. Uecker threw 5 innings for the win, giving up 1 hit with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. Easton Mudder finished with the game with 2 strikeouts in the final inning.

At the plate, Riley Rothschadl went 2-2 with 3 walks and trio of runs. Mudder and Landon Bares also had 2 hits for the victors.

Bon Homme 12, Beresford Area 2

Bon Homme sealed the victory with 6 runs in the final inning. Uecker scored 3 runs on 3 hits, and Mudder drove in 3 runs.

Parkston 14, Parker 3 (5 IN.)

Brayden Jervik went 2-4 with 2 runs to lead the Trojans in the win. Teammate Kaleb Weber scored 3 times with 2 RBIs from the leadoff spot and Will Jodozi hit a home run.

For Parker, Ethan Kasten went 2-2.

Winner 5, MVPCS 4 (8 IN.)

The Warriors took the win on an error in the bottom of the 8th. Charley Pravecelt went 3-3 in the victory and Pierce Nelson drew 3 walks.

Menno/Scotland 11, Garretson 4

Austin Pillsbury drove in 2 runs on 3 hits, and Kory Keppen hit in a trio of runs for the Trappers. Menno/Scotland finished with 10 hits and 12 walks to earn the victory, including 3 walks from Brayden Sattler.

Lennox 4, Chester/Colman-Egan/Flandreau 3

Conner Eich knocked in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth, and the Orioles held on for the win.

Braxton Musser threw the complete game victory and finished with 2 hits at the plate. For C/C-E/F, Kolby Peters drove in 3 runs on 2 hits.

Gregory County 15, Lead-Deadwood 0 (6 IN.)

Gregory County had 17 hits in the victory, including 3 each from Rylan Peck, Ben Witt and Gunner Stephens.

Teammate Trey Murray also went 2-2 with 3 runs scored.

Gregory County 14, St. Thomas More 2 (6 IN.)

Peck had a pair of doubles among 3 hits and Sawyer Tietgen had 3 RBIs on 3 hits for the winners. Stephens also had another 3 hits in the win, as Gregory County had another 17 hits.

Wagner 14, Canton 0 (6 IN.)

Dustin Honomichl had a great game on the mound, completing the no-hitter with 13 strikeouts and 2 walks. Wagner scored 4 runs each in the 4th, 5th and 6th to help earn the win.

Matt Link had 3 hits, 2 walks and 4 runs from the lead-off position for the victors. Teammate Corbin Carda also went 3-3 while driving in 3 runs.

Belle Fourche 10, CKL 0 (5 IN.)

Ryker Auddis lead the Broncs with 3 hits in the win, and DH Caden Thomsen finished with 3 RBIs.

On the mound, Dalton Davis threw a complete game victory with 6 strikeouts.
