SD Baseball Recap (5/11): Harrisburg, BV Split In Big Series

Brandon Valley 6, Harrisburg 5

Carson Askdal hit a go-ahead grand slam in the bottom of the 3rd to give BV the 4-3 lead. Harrisburg answered with a pair of runs in the top of the 5th, but BV took the lead for good in the bottom half of the inning, capitalizing on a double and an error for 2 runs.

Askdal also got the win on the mound, while Teigan Munce and Max Carlson had 2 hits each for Harrisburg.

Harrisburg 7, Brandon Valley 5

Harrisburg took game 2 with the help of Jack Sutton who drove in 3 runs on 2 hits, including a home run. Tyman Long also scored 3 times on 2 hits, while Noah Boschee went 2-4 as well.

For BV, Askdal and Cole Frisbie both hit a triple.

Pierre 4, Brookings 1

Lincoln Kienholz threw a complete game 3-hitter for the Governors, striking out 10. George Stalley was the top hitter for the winners, going 1-2 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored.

For Brookings, Nathan Lease went 2-3.

Brookings 11, Pierre 3

Brookings bounce back in game 2, securing the victory behind 15 hits. Lincoln Hardin lead with 3 runs on 3 hits for the Bobcats, while Jake Ammann blasted a home run. Breck Hirrschoff also drove in 3 runs on 2 hits, while Ashton Witte and Sam Hardin finished with 2 hits each.

For Pierre, Kienholz went 2-2 with 2 walks and a triple.

Roosevelt 2, Yankton 0

Ben Irsfeld gave up just 4 hits in a 10 strikeout shutout for Roosevelt’s win over Yankton. The Rough Riders scored 1 run in the 1st on a passed ball, and another in the 6th on sacrifice fly from Jacob Mongar.

Mongar had 2 hits in the win, while Connor Teichroew threw a complete game for the Bucks.

Roosevelt 4, Yankton 1

Marcus Phillips went 2-3 with 2 RBIs, and Irseld drove in 2 runs on a hit and a walk to help lift the Rough Riders to the win.

Teammates, Dexter Payne and Hayden Brown finished with 2 hits as well. For Yankton, Joe Gokie had 2 hits.

Lincoln 5, O’Gorman 4

Lincoln Vasgaard hit a walk-off single to left field, giving the Patriots a Game 1 victory over O’Gorman. Vasgaard drove in 3 runs for the winners, while Sawyer Midt, Nathan Motl and Mason Tolrud had 2 hits each.

For OG, Leo Hueners drove in a trio of runs on 3 hits.

O’Gorman 12, Lincoln 0 (6 IN.)

Jake Wheeler threw a no-hitter for the Knights, striking out 6 with just 1 walk. Mason Fritz also had 3 hits with 3 RBIs in the win for the Knights.

West Central 7, SFC 3

Gavin Gerloch hit a solo home run, and Duece Sherrard scored 3 times on 3 hits from the leadoff position to help give West Central the victory. Teammates Grafton Stroup and Caden Alfson also had a pair of base hits each.

For SFC, Jacob Docter went 3-3 and Tate Snyder finished with 2 hits.

Dakota Valley 16, Canton 1 (5 IN.)

The Panthers capitalized on 13 hits and 6 errors to earn the quick victory. Isaac Bruns hit a double among 3 base hits, while driving in 2 runs. The Center Fielder scored 3 of his own, while Jaxon Hennies had 2 RBIs in 2 hits.

For Canton, Elijah Isais had the only 2 hits.

Tea Area 17, McCook 16

In a thrilling game that included 33 runs, 26 hits, and 15 errors, the Tea Titans finished the victors.

Klayton Sattler had a double and a triple among 4 hits, while driving in 5 runs. 4 other Titans had multi-hit days, including Logan Boom, Nathan Babb, Eric Munson and Chase Van Tol.

For the Burros, Braeden Kerkhove drove in 4 runs on 3 hits, while Weston Remmers went 3-3 with 3 RBIs and a trio of runs scored. Ty Morrison also drew 3 walks on the day, while Jackson Remmers scored 4 times on 3 hits in the leadoff spot.

Centerville 2, Menno/Scotland 0

Logan Bobzin struck out 16 while giving up just 2 hits, elevating Centerville to the win. Bobzin also had 2 hits in the victory, and teammate Cole Edberg went 2-4.

Sioux Valley 11, Hamlin Area 2

Parker Puetz had a big day at the plate, hitting 2 doubles and a home run, with 4 RBIs. Teammate Damian Danzeisen finished with 2 hits and a walk in the leadoff spot.

For Hamlin Area, Riggs Prouty went 2-4.

Redfield Area 10, Groton Area 1

Redfield Area continued their undefeated season with a solid victory over Groton Area. Keaton Rohlfs threw the complete game 1-hitter, while Camden Osborn, Peyton Osborn, Fehi Faonelua, Easton Millar, Erik Salmen and Rohlfs all had 2 hits in the win.

Bennett County 10, Lead-Deadwood 9

The Warriors walked off their first win of the year on a single from Ace Hahn. Bennett County had just 5 hits, while Lead-Deadwood had 11, including 4 from Drew Janke.

PGDCWL Honkers 11, Gregory County 3

The top team in Region 4 went on the road and completed the victory against Gregory County. Grayson Hanson and Caden Foxley lead the way with 3 hits each for the Honkers, and Joey Foxley drove in 3 runs with 2 walks.

Sturgis 8, RC Central 3

Dustin Alan had 2 hits in the victory and Evan Stroud had a trio of RBIs.

RC Central 6, Sturgis 3

The Cobblers scored 2 runs in the 7th inning to secure the game 2 victory. Brecken O’Brien had 2 of the 6 Central hits, while Shortstop Riley Palmer drew 2 walks.

For Sturgis, Owen Cass had a pair of hits, and Dawson Inhofer drew 3 walks.

Stevens 14, RC Christian 4 (5 IN.)

Stevens capitalized on a 9-run inning to earn the quick victory. Colton Nesland had 4 hits, including a triple, for the Raiders, and Luke Jegeries finished with 3 hits and 2 runs scored.

For the Comets, Cayden Von Eye, and Elijah Hoyt had 2 hits each.

Baltic 5, Garretson 1

Baltic got the road win behind the arm of Riley Schultz, who struck out 7 batters in 3 innings of relief work, while only giving up 1 run.

Caleb Kittelson and Jose Valadez lead the way at the plate with a pair of runs scored and 2 hits each.
