Class A Baseball Recap (5/7): Getz Steals Home to End Doubleheader in Pierre

Stevens 6, Pierre 0

PIERRE-Jackson Dial and Ian Beer combined for a three-hit shutout to lead the Raiders to the road victory. Beer also connected for three hits at the plate, while teammates Teagen Smith and Colten Morlang complemented with two hits each and Blake Olmsted secured the win with a two-run home run in the seventh inning.

For the Govs, Nolan Petersen reached first three times via a single and two walks.

Pierre 2, Stevens 1

The Govs answered the game one loss with an exciting victory. After a Petersen single to tie in the seventh frame, Dawson Getz stole home on a well-executed first-and-third double steal to finish the rally.

On the mound, Cooper Terwilliger (5 IN, 8 K) and George Stalley (2 IN, 6 K) combined for 14 strikeouts for Pierre.


Roosevelt 1, Mitchell 0

MITCHELL- Noah Verdoorn threw a one-hitter with seven strikeouts to lead the Rough Riders to the victory in the pitcher’s duel. Logan Edwards scored the lone run in the contest on a single from Kaleb Schroeder in the fifth inning.

For Mitchell, Blake Brosz scattered two hits and three walks while striking out seven in a complete game effort.

Roosevelt 7, Mitchell 5

Jacob Mongar earned the save and had three hits at the plate as the Rough Riders took the series. Verdoorn and Lawsen Hensley each scored two runs at the top of the lineup.

In the loss, Gavin Jones earned three walks.


Lincoln 7, Brandon Valley 4

SIOUX FALLS- The Patriots earned the win behind a two-run rally in the fifth inning and an insurance run in the sixth. Brycen Mitchell hit a triple and a single in the victory and Sawyer Mindt had a pair of hits to and a walk.

In the loss, Aiden Zerr scored twice on two doubles while Bryton Stroh and Jackson Adams each had two hits in the contest.

Lincoln 2, Brandon Valley 1

Caden Watson punched out eight batters and gave up just two base hits to lead Lincoln to their second win of the day. At the plate, Colin Lunders drove in both runs for the Pats on a fourth inning single.


O’Gorman 11, Brookings 4

BROOKINGS- The Knights connected for 14 hits in the contest, lead by Hunter Den Boer who hit a double and a home run among four hits. Teammate Zach Dunham went 3-4 for the victors and Brogan Moffitt scored twice on two hits and a walk.

O’Gorman 5, Brookings 4

Moffitt hit a go-ahead RBI single in final frame and Charlie Hueners closed the door with three strikeouts as OG completed the road sweep. Hueners also had two hits at the plate and Jack Strukel stole three bases to go along with two walks and a HBP.

For Brookings, David Brink scored twice on two hits.


Tea Area 10, Jefferson 0 (6 IN)

TEA- Ethan Vis drove in four runs on a pair of hits as the Titans defended Tea with an early victory. On the mound, Clayton Schwebach gave up one hit in five innings and Nate Christensen finished the win with a shutdown inning.

Tea Area 8, Jefferson 5

Vis completed an impressive doubleheader with an additional three hits in the contest. Mason Schramm complimented with a two-hit, two-RBI performance and Sam Werdel went 2-3 with a double and a walk.


Yankton 10, Washington 0 (5 IN)

YANKTON- Lucas Kampshoff and Trey Sager crushed home runs as the Bucks earned the victory in the River City. Kampshoff also hit a double for the victors while Tate Beste (3-3, 1 R), Matthew Sheldon (3-3, 3 R, 1 RBI) and Owen Wishon (2-2, 1 2B, 1 BB, 2 R, 2 RBI) had multi-hit performances.

On the mound, Mark Kathol earned the win with three strikeouts.

Yankton 5, Washington 0

The Bucks completed 12 innings of shutout pitching as Kael Garry scattered eight hits in a complete game victory. At the plate, Beste and Kampshoff both went 1-1 with two walks.

For the Warriors, Caden Sporrer, Brekken Biteler and Cash Moet each had multi-hit games.
